Mission: Episode 10 - New Home, Same Pioneers
Location: Bridge - Deck 1 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD001 1300 hrs

The past six hours had been a blur for Tyler, the day began with a meeting and would end with who knows. Within those hours he had to rescind the crew's shore leave, and make space for the families that would now live aboard the Pioneer. Tyler was happy that Quinn had gotten the better of that discussion. Since the XO's arrival he had been pushing Tyler to allow families aboard and now the Pioneer would truly be home.

He stood at the door of the Ready Room, a door that led to the Bridge, and the next chapter in the story of the USS Pioneer. The Senior Staff had been called to stations and now it was time to tell them why. When he stepped out on the bridge his smile covered the trepidation that he felt. He looked around at the new faces. The woman who was his new Chief stood where Moore once did. Moore having been transferred to Starfleet Medical in a coma. Then there was Tam, the Trill replacement for Hollister. Tyler truly felt like he failed his former pilot and wondered where she may be.

He stood in front of the center seat. "My favorite author once wrote 'You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.' In keeping with that it is time for us to step onto that road. As of 0700 this ship's orders have changed. Admiral Lancaster has ordered the Pioneer to Starbase Sirius on the Romulan border with all due haste. We are to rejoin the Task Force their. However, the Admiral would not say why the sudden change in plans. He did say I would be briefed once arriving. I know that Empok Nor and the Trivas System has become our home, our port in the storm as it were. However, as Tolkein said all we have to do is keep our feet and all will work to our benefit." Tyler had looked around the bridge as he spoke. He made sure to make eye contact with his crew, his family. They had been through a lot with him and now they headed into something that they had no idea what.

Lieutenant Tam sat at the helm, having spent the day familiarizing herself with the ship's systems. When the Captain started to speak, she turned to face him. She watched him with particular attentiveness, less out of genuine interest than the desire to seem interested. She crossed her arms under her chest and folded one of her legs over the other, but said nothing

Ameri listened to the captain's words as he spoke. Her eyes went from his to the rest of the bridge crew and then back to him as he finished speaking. "We will move forward as we always have, together as a team and a belief in why we are here. Our faith is unwavering in the command staff and each other."

Lan stood at her post with her arms behind her back. This was going to be her first tour with this crew and captain. It wasn't hers to question any orders, she was just here to do her duty. She remained quiet waiting for the other stations to call in ready.

After Malbrooke hand entered and moved into the center of Pioneer's bridge, Neil went back to reviewing reports on his contact. He needed to finish fitting out his new MARVEL-EAS and half a dozen other things.

Including his duties as 2nd officer.

"The shuttles have all been secured, including the Hawkeye captain. Marine sentries posted and tied into security. The Cure's ready, sir." Neil felt inane, reporting the same thing he'd reported via writing hours earlier.

But the fleet had it's traditions....

Quinn had been reviewing all the crew transfer documents, from the center console that divided the command chairs on the bridge. Deep down he had heard what the Captain had said, but he wondered why now? And why the pull away from Cardassian space.

In Quinn's eyes, they still had unresolved conflicts to resolve. He also knew going over to the romulan border, was going to generate a new set of conflicts for them to resolve. Quinn knew that the romulan empire, was in a fragile state. And things could escalate easily.

The empire was in a fragile state as it was, especially after the loss of the homeworld. He had read reports that the government was having a hard time maintaining control over the massive and dislocated romulan people. He knew about D'Tan's movement, and the push to start a romulan republic. He new the empire was trying to enforce the star empire, but the Tal Shair clearly had their own agenda.

"All departments area ready Captain." Quinn said, desperately wanting to quote what Captain Riker said to Admiral Picard, almost a decade ago. About being ass deep in romulans for the rest of their lives. However at the moment, he remained silent, and waited for Tyler's orders.

Tyler sat in the center seat, and he could feel the words that his XO left unspoken. It was a benefit that they had developed, they knew each others thoughts and moves. He leaned over and whispered "My sentiments exactly Number One." His attention turned to the crew again. "Very well if there are no questions. Elen start making plans for the installation, you are getting a QSD when we arrive at Sirius. Lieutenant Tam notify station Ops that we are ready to depart."

Larim just looked out of the view screen form his tactical station, just thinking about all he'd been through as a member of the pioneer crew. And he knew one thing, he wouldn't trade it for anything.

He'd be the first to admit he perked up at the words "romulan space" though

Elen looked over from the engineering station, "Ah that explains the rather nasty message I got this morning, questioning my leadership abilities, from a colleague of mine. Must be the new Quantum specialist. Joy- Keef and Romulans, can I just stay here ?" she sighed.

Nazia listened to the Chief Engineer speak, silently reminding herself that she needed to speak to her about something soon. She turned in her new chair until she too was facing the viewscreen, a sudden wave of excitement coming over her. She cued the indicator that would let station ops know they were ready to leave. Within seconds, a short message came back to her screen.

"Station Ops has given us the green light, Captain." she said, her gentle voice escaping.

"Helm, plot a course for Starbase Surius." Quinn called out from the comfort of his chair, as he looked over at the main display console between the two chairs on the bridge. Deep down, Quinn was concerned about leaving business unfinished around here. Now it would fall on Empok Nor and Port Royale to ensure the peace in this area. Quinn hoped they were up for the task.

Ameri stood working at her station. There was nothing left for her to say, they had their orders. Sometimes they liked them and sometimes they didn’t, but they followed them nonetheless.

Tyler looked around the bridge and noted everyone, it seemed like it was business as usual despite what everyone felt. This crew has been through so much I know they can handle this. Tyler thought as his eyes lingered on his Science Officer. He wondered if the change in setting would affect his Romulan friend. At the moment Tyler felt sorry and excited for Vaebn who was manning his station at the moment. Tyler took note to have coffee with his friend.

After a moment of self reflection with nothing but the sounds of the bridge to keep him company Tyler shifted his vision to the Conn. "Lieutenant Tam as soon as we are clear engage at warp nine." Within seconds Tyler knew that the order was acknowledged as the familiar sound of the warp nacelles raised into position. Tyler looked toward the viewscreen, toward Starbase Sirius, toward the future, and toward uncertainty.
