Sitting on the sofa in her new quarters she smiled, they were much bigger than her last and it was nice to be able to spread her things out. She was a bit of a 'collector' as she would put it. In the corner of the room she had set up a bookcase, as she liked to read the old fashioned way, that mostly consisted of psychological textbooks and trashy romance novels from 20th/21st century.

Scattered round she had ornaments made from her fathers memory of El-Auria so there was a globe of the planet, albeit a small one, on her desk that reminded her of her heritage. It also reminded her not to take things for granted, El-Aurians may have a long life span but they are not invincible and can be gone in a blink of an eye.

Spinning the globe, lost in thought, her console blinked. It was an incoming message from the USS Jamaica, her fathers vessel. Sighing slightly she sat down, took in a breath and smiled pressing the button so let her father pop up.

"Hi Daddy." Amelia began.

"Good morning my girl, how are things on the Pioneer?" he asked.

"I'm only here a short time but so far its been nice. Crew seem alright, no crazies knocking down my door so far... my quarters are huuuuge!" Like most El-Aurians she was incredibly young of mind due to her only being 30 in human years. In truth an El-Aurian doesn't fully mature until they are in their 70s/80s, and even then it still takes the men longer...

"Good, good. I did some digging on your CO." Sol started.

"DAD!" she shouted "What the hell?! You can't do that for every new Captain i serve under!" she shouted so loud no doubt she was heard in the hallway. Her reversion back to childlike behaviour was striking.

"Calm down Amelia, I won't tell you anything then."

"Good! I don't want to know, I want get to know him, and everyone, on my own without your supervision." she said her tone quite moody.

"I'm only looking out for you, you can never be too careful these days."

Her father still had some issues from his past. He had been part of the EDF, the El-Aurian Defence Force, which was the military of their homeworld. He, and Amelia's grandfather and uncle, was part of the blockade that tried to block The Borgs advance to let civilian carriers leave the planet. This was where her grandfather and uncle were killed in action.

Sol believed that someone betrayed them as the planetary defence shield was sabotaged allowing them to become vulnerable.

"Dad, not everyone is out to get us." She had worked with him a little in the past to get him past this and for the most part he was fine but he still slipped into his 'protection mode' when it came to his children.

Realising he had overstepped her sighed, "Sorry, sometimes I forget we're not in the back home anymore..."

"This is my home Dad, these are my people as much as El-Auria is yours."

"You're right I know my girl, just a momentary lapse in judgement. I am glad you are settling in well, don't forget to contact your mother, you know what she's like."

"I will Dad."

"Good, I need to go and take care of a few things... been some pirate activity out here but stay safe."

"Yes Dad, you too."

"Love you baby." he finished.

"Love you too Dad." and the call ended.

Sitting back in her chair she rubbed her face in exasperation, that man honestly sometimes drove her to real alcohol, never a good thing. Shaking the call of she decided to go for a walk.
