Mission:
Episode 10 - New Home, Same Pioneers
Location: Captain's Dining Room - Deck 2 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD008 1330 hrs
Ever since he took command Tyler always felt that he would be a Captain like the one he idled, Katheryn Janeway. She knew everything there was to know about her crew. Of course Tyler did not have a long journey to get to know his crew. So, he decided that departmental lunches would become a standard. Today it was lunch with his Engineers. They deserved it after all of the work that they had put in installing the new QSD.
Tyler had the support staff prepare the dining room. It would be a relatively informal setting with brunch being served. For the moment Tyler sat and read the latest action reports from Starbase 718.
Clarissa was the first to arrive. She was not very fond of the idea of a luncheon. She had gotten so use to having lunch with Jayden. She would prefer to be eating with him, but she knew she did not really have a choice. When the Captain invites you to eat, its not really optional.
When the doors hissed open Tyler looked up and saw the Assistant Chief Engineer arrive. "Lieutenant Rockwell have a seat. Can we get you anything?"
Clarissa grinned as she looked over to the person asking her what she wanted to eat. It happened to be the Captain. "Minestrone soup and some breadsticks would be great."
Tyler made the requests and sat down. "Clarissa while we wait for everyone else to arrive. I must say that I am impressed and appreciative of the work that you and the rest of the Engineering team have done in getting the QSD installed and operational."
"Thank you sir, but I can not take the credit. Lieutenant Diari deserves all the credit, sir." Clarissa said, with a smile on her face. It was nice of him to say that.
Lt Myles entered shortly afterward and saw Lt Rockwell seated with the Captain. She smiled and started to walk over. She was actually excited to get the invitation as she been meaning thank him for bringing her aboard ship. "Afternoon." She said in greeting.
Right behind her, El arrived, engrossed in a PaDD, nearly knocking into the doorframe, then into one of the tables, before looking up.
"Oh good, you're here 'Rissie. Have finally found you a mentor for the professional development stuff." She trailed off, searching through her stack. "Should be here... somewhere."
Clarissa grinned when she noticed El walking into the room. She was curious to know more about this mentor, but that would have to wait for the moment, first they needed to get through the luncheon with the captain.
"Well now that we are all here. Let's get settled and have a nice relaxing lunch." Tyler raised his glass. "Here is to all of you and the hard work you put in with your teams. The Pioneer has a functioning QSD thanks to you all. Great work!" Tyler hoped that Diari would explain all to Clarissa in due time, and as such did not elaborate on the faux pas of his Chief Engineer. "I hope that the installation did not take up all of your Shore Leave and you will have some time to enjoy yourselves. What are you all planning to unwind?"
"Got a couple of things to finish up before heading off planet-side." El answered "There's a nice forest down there I plan to get lost in for a few days, and get as far away from technology as I can."
"Sounds like a plan Elen. I would much prefer to be outdoors then stuck in the ship most times. Give me a good campfire and a horse and I am in great shape." Tyler said as the meals were served, stone fired pizza was served. The pizza was topped with fresh basil, mozzarella chees, and tomato sauce. A good red wine was also poured.
"I am going to the station's promenade area, and explore the entertainment options available to me." Clarissa said, with a smile on her face. She really wanted to try out the escape room.
"Well unless there is a dire emergency you all have extended leave due to the great work that you have done. So, what are we excited about now that we are on the Romulan boarder." Tyler smiled he rather liked listening to what his crew felt.
"I will be taking you up on that sir, of course with Lieutenant Diari's permission." Clarissa said, with a warm grin on her face.
Tyler took a bite of his food Ave then smiled. "You do that Lieutenant." He rather enjoyed this rare opportunity to chat with some of his officers that he doesn't get to chat with often.
"You have my permission as soon as I meet this new man of yours, want to know if he's suitable for you, and if you could report on the Spa on the lower level all the better." Dairi joked, making a grab for a pizza slice.
"Oh, Captain, are we going to be anywhere near the Archer array on this tour, or are we just patrolling the local sectors? Have family there, might plan to pop in and say hello." El continued.
"I think we can manage a swing by the array once we complete our first mission here. It would be nice to get to know some of your family. Who is on the array?" Tyler responded he rather enjoyed getting to know his crew.
"Uncle Dalen, and Auntie Lee. You'd like Dalen, he keeps horses on the planet near the observatory when he not doing astronomy. It's his fault I joined the fleet." Elen smiled, thinking of her relatives.
"I will have to make sure that we get over there. Your Uncle sounds like my kind of people. We can give them a tour of the Pioneer and then go for a ride." Tyler said with a chuckle.
Clarissa had remained silent for the majority of the luncheon. She was listening in, learning more about her commanding officer, and the captain of the USS Pioneer. She had a big grin on her face, as she discovered she liked what she had heard so far.
The rest of lunch was passed with jokes and tales for the goings on within the ship. Tyler was immersed in everything that the others had to say. For the first time in a long time Tyler felt like a member of the crew, not a Captain. For that he would be forever indebted to this group.
