Mission: Episode 2 - The Enemy Within
Location: Captain’s Ready Room
Timeline: MD001 0700 hrs
Tags: SD 71370.0700

B’tak had trust arrived on the Pioneer She briefly contemplated changing from her Marine uniform before checking in with the captain, but opted against it. She made her way through the ship, following prompts from the computer to reach the bridge, she made her way across the bridge to the Ready Room, where she set her bag down and signaled the door.

Tyler sat on the couch in his ready room and stared out at the looming station. He was nervous and if he actually chose to admit it, afraid. Not afraid of the mission to come but his fear welled from the prospect of running his first briefing. The door chime pulled him from his reflection.

"Come..."

The doors swished open to reveal a Klingon woman, one who Tyler could never forget. He smiled broadly... "B'tak come in, have a seat. What I can I do for you old friend?"

B'tak saluted, but it was accompanied by a smile.

"Commander, your honorable service has finally been awarded as is right. Congratulations." She paused and he gestured for her to take a seat. She sat and continued,

"You and Abernathy seem to have it in for me. He was pushing me to transition to the navy for a few years now. Seems he got you in on the plan."

"No we don't have it in for you. It is time for your honorable service to be rewarded... High time if you ask me. Commander Abernathy planted the seed and I watered the plant. I need a Chief of the Boat, the honor is yours if you want it." Tyler smiled and leaned back in his chair.

B'tak straightened a little more,

"I accept. I won't let you down sir."

"Excellent, and I am sure neither I nor this crew will let you down. I will admit that this job will not be an easy one. With an enlisted compliment of over a hundred, plus the Marine enlisted personnel you will have your hands full. On top of all of that you will be part of the command team. I plan on running this ship with my XO, Second Officer, and yourself. Still feel like you're up for the task?" Tyler already knew the answer to the question that was why he leaned back and smirked.

It never ceased to amaze her the questions that humans asked. It was obvious that she felt capable of the job, and indeed that even if she didn’t she wasn’t going to say as much.

“I will carry out the duties of my position with honor, and make sure that you are honored and proud of all the enlisted crew aboard this ship.”

"On a more personal note B'tak I do appreciate you taking the job and helping me with this. A first command, one can use all the experienced help that they can get." Tyler smiled broadly at the Klingon woman.

She bared her teeth in a grin,

"If I didn't think that you would succeed I wouldn't have accepted the posting. There is room for both of us to advance here."

"Agreed... So tell me what have you been doing since the Dublin?" He said with a smile.

"I was aboard the Dublin the whole time. Unless you mean these last few months, in which case I was undergoing the Naval indoctrination process. Starfleet is Starfleet, but some people like to think that Marines aren't capable of working with naval officers without a whole lot of talking." She flashed a smile,

"Present company excluded. So, tell me, where do you want me to start. I know my role, but there has to be specific goals you have for me."

"Well, there are two things that worry me currently when it comes to the enlisted on this ship. The first is for the most part they are all wet behind the ears. I would like you to make sure that they are ready for this. I need them at their very best. The second thing is something that I think you would be uniquely suited for. The Marines in our detachment, I would like to integrate them into the crew at large. At least when they are not on mission. Would you be able to work with their CO and get that done?" Tyler leaned forward in his chair as he sipped his coffee.

B'tak tried to suppress her grin. She was being tasked to work with the Marines. This was going to suit her well.

"Aye Sir, I think I can handle that."

"Well if that will be all you are dismissed Master Chief." Tyler said picking up a PADD of his desk.

B’tak wheeled out of the office.

Time to start knocking skulls.
