Mission: Episode 4 - The Sum of Our Parts
Location: T'San's Office
Timeline: MD001 1530 hrs

Last Time On Accepting The Here And Now

Jenn put her hand on her head as the dizziness slowly subsided. "Thank you, Glen." She said as she slowly got up an made a few steps getting her bearings.

Jati smiled at Jenn, then let go of her. "Dr. T'San, will you assist me in reviewing the data?" she asked.

Larim was next to step off the pad. Surprisingly steady. Wobbly on his feet he made it down off the pad and leaned up against a nearby wall.

T'San looked a moment to Larim and then turned to Jari. "Yes, Glen. What about my office, I can have the results sent there."

"Let's go", Jati agreed.

And Now The Continuation...

Jati followed T'San to her office. "I didn't expect to be facing such an interesting problem so soon after coming aboard", she said conversationally. "I suppose the idea that it's always exciting on a Starfleet vessel isn't far fetched?"

T'San nodded, "We did not either, but I learned through experience to always expect the unexpected." She sat down behind her desk and turned her computer on and called up the results. "Maybe you should come to dinner as well," T'San said, "I believe you have not met the chef either." And she added to that. "My husband, chef Dan."

"I've brought a data rod full of Cardassian replicator recipes", Jati said, stepping behind the desk with T'San and bending down to one knee, so she'd be about level with her. She figured she didn't need a chair just yet. "I'd love to try something exotic, though. Something hot, preferably. It's always so cold on this ship."

"Then you should try my husband's Thai food. It will sure warm you up." She looked over the results. "What are we looking at? This maybe more your area of expertise."

"My mother's, actually", Jati replied. "I want to gather all the data and send it to her for review. I'm a biologist, this is more suited to an exotic particle physicist, no?" She pointed at some of the readouts. "But even I can see that this is odd. Look here, we've been labouring under the assumption that this is a cross-over situation between different quantum realities. But if that was the case, we should not be seeing chroniton particles. But we are seeing them as well as the different quantum signature." She paused. "That said, I don't know what to make of that."

T'San nodded. "Yes, I see what you mean. I don't know what it means either." She got up and then pointed to the chair. "Please, take my seat. Send your data to your mother."

Jati did just that, together with a short explanatory message putting it all into context. "She works at the Science Ministry", she said. "She's probably happy to get her hands on some real data again, for a change." Jati was always teasing her mother about having turned administrator rather than researcher. "About your dinner invitation, I'd love to try your splendid food. When would be good for you?"

"You mean my husband's splendid food. He is the cook in the family. And why not this evening? We have invited our alternate universe guests as well," offered T'San.

"Perfect", Jati agreed. "I might even have news by then. And at any rate, I'm sure they'll appreciate the diversion." And alternate universe or not, she preferred getting to know the crew in small groups rather than in large crowds.

"I agree too," said T'San.
