Mission: Episode 3 - Weary Travellers
Location: Main Engineering - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD001 1300 hrs

El stood there dazed. She didn't know if it was the increased gravity (her old posting had a 0.8G field, much less than federation standard), or three days of high -warp travel in a defiant class that really needed an alignment check, but the room wouldn't stop spinning.

Walking timidly over to the engineering console, she thought maybe a seat would help, and also something to hold onto to. If anybody asked why she was there the displays would give her an excuse, although she was stuffed if they have warp drive schematics on them.

Some chief engineer, Taran must have been joking, if it was a starbase sure, power systems, transporters, replicators fine- but a starship?

She sat down, and slumped in the chair, breathing deeply.

Tyler was on one of his daily walks. He had taken to walking through the ship and seeing how the crew was doing. It seemed that the crew had taken to liking seeing the Captain smiling and lending a hand if needed.

He knew that Engineering had taken the hardest hit during the battle in the Badlands and the aftermath. With all the damage to the ship and Lt Thalk being reassigned a lot was going on down there. Tyler thought that now was as good a time as any to meet his new Chief in Engineering.

Tyler walked into the engineering bay and saw the Betazoid woman practically passed out in a chair. A few engineers were going to snap to attention and greet the captain. Tyler signaled them to stand down with a wave of his hand. He walked over to the chair and whispered in the blonde woman's ear. "Ma'am it seems we are having a warp core breach."

"No we're not" El slurred, turning her head "It's offline. Someone's running a level 1 diagnostic on the injectors. And since when have I been Ma'am guys ?"

She opened her eyes to see it was the captain.

"Ah good. somebody higher up the food chain. Hello, I'll be right with you once the room aligns itself, seems to be a bit spinny just now."

Tyler chuckled "It's quite alright Lieutenant I thought I would come down and meet the ship's doc. So, fill me in how is the patient today. Oh, and remember I am a Captain so small words please." Tyler paused for a moment, and then continued. "Also, rise and shine..."

"Thanks. In medical terms, the patient is out of surgery, and under observation, and needs a week of bed rest to make sure everything's OK and healed before running a marathon like the Badlands." El reported, swaying slightly as she stood up. "Sorry, not used to the stronger gravity, last posting was 80% of standard."

"You should have a conversation with our XO he is used to a heavier gravity. Good to hear that you have her on the mend. Don't work yourself too hard, take some time to relax and get to know your new posting Elen. Where was your last posting?" Tyler smiled at the weary engineer. He was happy that she had everything at hand after Thalk's departure but was worried that she might work herself too hard.

"Finland Station, about a week away from Benzar heading towards the Remmler array in the Beta Quadrant. We had planetary facilities, so set environmental to match." El explained, thinking of the old place "Wouldn't mind at some point doing a planetary landing to check external repairs close up, especially the nacelle pylons, know they're a bit of weak point on Intrepids."

Tyler laughed, "I'll tell you what as soon as we have a planet and a reason we will go condition blue and it will be up to you and T'Mia to take her down. For now the Edison is at your disposal and yours to use whenever needed. When the repairs have slowed down I need you to coordinate with the XO on a duty rotation. I do require an engineer on the bridge when on mission. I've been to Finland Station on my previous assignment. Beautiful place, what do you think of our home?"

"Architecturally, hate it. Don't like the Cardassian style at all, but the station has a great atmosphere about it, especially the bookstore on the main concourse. Or did you mean, this beautiful little machine ?" El replied, stroking the console "It's a shame she got so beat up, hopefully she won't have too many scars."

"No problem on the engineer. I'd like someone there, so if anything happens, can react quicker, also gives some of the younger ones some bridge experience."

Tyler laughed he could tell already that he was going to like this woman. "Actually I was talking about both the station and this beautiful little machine. Let's make a deal you and I, while I am up on the bridge I will try my very best to not beat her up, so long as you keep her running and looking beautiful. What do you say?"

"You're on !"exclaimed El "And if I can improve things along the way I will."

Tyler slapped his new engineer on the back. "In that case Lieutenant we have an accord, and I believe we both have a daunting task ahead of us." He laughed again and headed for the door of main engineering. He glanced over his shoulder smiling.
