Mission: Episode 14 - The Poseidon Adventure
Location: The Snake Pit - Deck 9 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD009 1300 hrs

Having checked in with his sister, 1st Lieutenant Edward O'Rourke made his way down to Marine Country and meet the famous Cure.

At the moment, Edmund was going around checking to see if all was ready for possible events that could be happening on the station. He had plans to do a bit more exploring, even go down to the planet Aquil. It had been a while since he's gone swimming.

"Captain, a word, if I may?" Edward asked the other man.

Edmund looked up from the padd looking at the man who spoke to him. "Yes, and hello Lieutenant, what can I do for you?"

"I'm Lieutenant Edward O'Rourke, the Cure's new Combat Engineer, reporting for duty, sir." Edward said.

"O'Rourke the last name sounds rather familiar. Are you related to the Chief Medical Officer Hermia O'Rourke?" Edmund queried. "Come with me lets have a sit down and visit, shall we?" Edmund leading the way to a break room where they could chat and get something to eat.

"Yes, she's my twin sister." Edward said and followed Edmund into the break room. "Though she'll say she's my older sister."

"Probably because maybe she was born earlier than you?" Edmund queried, as he ordered himself a roast beef sandwich with sauteed onions and mushrooms, and a slice of cheese. "Where were you serving before you were transferred here?" also opting to order a fizzy lemonade.

"It's only 15 minutes." Edward said. "I was assigned to Starbase 371. I was attached to a Reconstruction Team rebuilding colonies near the edge of Federation space."

"Well her being born 15 minutes earlier does in essence make her the older sister." Edmund remarked before picking up his sandwich and drink taking it to the table.

"I know, but she uses it to boss me around and critique my behaviour." Edward said.

Edmund tilted his head slightly hearing this. "Perhaps, you two can get things outlined as to you stating she needn't do such anymore? If it persists then get a mediator."

"Yes, that's good advice, Mum was always the mediator when were growing up." Edward said.

"Also there could be something written up to where boundaries can be set. Is there a reason why it's not happened before? I am sure both of you should be able to work out this sort of rivalry and be more of a team. One never knows when something happens and there is a possible regretful happening that neither of you would want to happen and your last words are a fight instead, of words of love and compassion." Edmund responded.

"We're not often assigned to the same place." Edward said.

"I see, so now that you are here, this is a good time to mend any broken connections. Or make new ones this way you and your sister can be a formidable team." Merrick giving a raised questioning eyebrow.

"Indeed." Edward said. "Don't tell her, but Hermia has always been my hero, she's always been stronger than me, she was able to stand up to our father, something I could never do." He added. "Even though she can be a pain in the arse sometimes, I know she's only looking out for me."

"Hermia and I haven't spoken to each other for quite sometime, so you won't need to worry about my saying anything." Merrick answered with some regret.

"Say, Captain, do you have a soft spot for my sister?" Edward asked, sensing Edmund's regret.

"I am not certain exactly what you mean by that. However I am regretful that I've not spoken to her since I had dinner with her one night. That seems so long ago, and that isn't a good thing. I drifted away and time passed by what with what happened since I first came onto the ship and we had our missions and duties. Your sister is a welcoming woman, and was fun to be around. But, I have a habit of putting up walls and barriers as I've not wanted to get involved with anyone for quite sometime. Either as a romantic partner or even as a friend."

"Maybe you should let her know this, she probably wonders what happened." Edward said.

"You are absolutely right. I've been a bit of a cad, I definitely need to offer my apologies." Edmund replied. "I am such a dunderhead." he added.

"Well, I have to be right once and a while." Edward said with a smile.

Edmund returned the smile. "I'll make certain to make an effort to go talk to Hermia and get things set straight between us, if that is possible, at least being friends." he remarked.

"That sounds good." Edward said. "Do you have any orders for me, Skipper?" He asked.

"The only order that I can possibly have for you, is to enjoy your shore leave and go visit the planet below just for fresh air and such. Would be a good thing to do."

"Aye, Skipper, thanks for the talk." Edward said.

"You are welcome, however there is a couple of questions I do have, what do you do on your time off, and what is your speciality for the Marines?" Edmund asked.

"I like a party, you know a drink or two." Edward said. "I like to tinker with tech both Federation and from other powers." He added. "My MOS is Combat Engineer."

"That is good to know. How are you at doing a repair job on the fly with a battle raging all around you?" This was something that Edmund did want to know.

"That's the job." Edward said with a smile. "For example in a skirmish with Breen on Yanith 5, I was able to repair a personnel transporter with Disruptor blasts flying around me as the other Marines fought them. I also rigged it to explode, if the Breen tried to use it after our evac."

"That is impressive, sounds like you've got a cool head in the heat of battle." Edmund giving a nod. "When you go partying, how drunk do you get?"

"Not so much as I can't stand." Edward said. "Though sometimes I may have to lean on a bulkhead for support."

Another nod from Edmund. "I've had that sensation from time to time. " a beep from his padd, Edmund gave a sigh. "Well I need to get going, I've got a call that is needing my attention. I'll see you later okay?"

"Of course, Skipper." Edward said. "I'm going to make the most of the remaining shoreleave I have."

"Good that will work out. I'll be wanting to hear what you've done on your shore leave when you come back to the ship." Edmund replied. "For now dismissed" giving a bit of a grin.
