Mission: Episode 14 - The Poseidon Adventure
Location: Tremble's Quarters - Deck 2 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD003 0400 hrs

Neil awoke as his contact buzzed.

He kinda hated that. It was oddly disturbing. Your eye shouldn’t be buzzed. Even though it was a very effective and silent way to wake up. Right now he had it tuned to go off on priority comm calls only.

Neil slowly slipped from his bed and quickly pulled drawers and an old t-shirt, before moving through the dark by feel, into his quarters main living area. He shut the sliders behind him, leaving Jayna asleep and then made his way to his desk and activated the Com. With his contact’s settings, the alert could only be from the Commodore or…

“Good evening Neil,” Brigadier Sobel’s face appeared above Neil’s desk. “Sorry to wake you but you know how things go.”

“Yes sir. Good to see you again, General. Who are we at war with?” Neil asked, a grin pulling at his lips.

“Everyone, as always,” Francis said, a grin pulling at his own lips. Though they both new he was only half kidding. “It’s been a minute, Neil. How goes everything?”

“Fine as a frog hair split nine-ways, Sir,” Neil replied. “I trust you’ve seen the after actions from Pioneer’s last mission. The Cure did a good job as usual, and we dealt with the Jutari and their problems. Pioneer’s crew is the best.”

“Yes, you’ve a good crew,” Francis remarked as he took a sip from his coffee mug and scratched an itch in his eyebrow with one knuckle.
Tempest came up behind Francis, one hand running along his shoulders as she stooped slightly to look at Neil’s image.

“Hello, Neil,” she said giving the major a wide smile, prudently clutching the front of her robe closed. “You’re looking thin dear. Are you eating?”

“Hello Mrs. General ma’am,” Neil responded with a quick grin. “I can assure you that I am fully sustained by Marine Ration Supplements as proscribed by the Fleet Victualling Board.

Tempest thumped her husband on the shoulder at Neil’s words and said with stern amusement in her voice, “He’s almost as bad as you are, Francis.” Fixing a steely eye on Neil’s image she said, “Mrs. General ma’am indeed. We’ve had this discussion before, Cornelius. You really need to call me Tempest or I’ll become vexed. As if I’d let myself be defined by any man’s rank…”

The Brigadier squawked at the abuse and Neil held up his hands. “Aye aye, Dr. Tempest, ma’am. As you say. No need to beat up on the poor general.”

Tempest smiled at Neil and said, “Better. But next time you’d better not need to be coached, young man. You need a good woman to distract you, Neil. You’re getting to be a curmudgeon.”

“The trouble is, Tempest, I like the bad ones,” Neil said as he leaned back in his chair, keeping his tone innocent.

“You’re getting too old for bad girls, Neil,” Tempest told him sweetly. And nobody likes a smart assed major.”

Frank decided it was time to cut in and said, “Bad girls aren’t all bad,”He patted Tempests rear out of sight of the vid-feed and grinned.

Tempest stiffened slightly in surprise and eyed her husband. Then she pointedly dropped her hand away from the front of her robe giving the major a quick glimpse down the neck as she stood and said, “Is that right. Well. Old Brigadier’s talk and plan too much and aren’t as used to riding to the sound of the guns.” She gave Francis a wicked smile and waived to Neil as she stepped away from the general’s desk. “Bye Neil. See you soon, dear.”

Francis blushed slightly at her words and watched her walk away.

Tempest stopped in the doorway to their bedroom and winked at him, then dropped her robe.
She was only wearing her standard issue birthday suit.

Then she disappeared, leaving the door open.

Francis gave a sideways look at Neil’s image and found the major studying something off camera. Harrumphing slightly, the Brigadier said, “Well. To the point of this call. I understand Pioneer is heading toward Poseidon Station in the Aquil System?”

“Aye aye Brigadier,” Neil acknowledged, looking back at the screen and met the general’s eyes with another grin.

“Well, I’ll be seeing you there then,” noting the grin, Francis answered back with one of his own. “Major, are you ready to receive a tasking?”

Neil sobered immediately and said, “Yes sir.”

“Good. After noting the dates of my arrival and the fact that it will coincide with Pioneer’s shore leave, I want you to get together with the Marines and Fleet on Poseidon and set up for a Corp Birthday Ball. Tempest and I will be hosting, but since Pioneer and the Cure are advance elements, I don’t see the need to try and find a ship to get my people there ahead. Keep it simple but invite everyone.”

Neil winced. So much for shore leave.

“Aye aye, Sir. I’ll do my best and I imagine Dr. Sobel will want me to run everything by her?” Neil asked.

“Good call, Neil. Now you know what my life is like. Looking forward to seeing you. My best to the Commodore.” Francis signed off before Neil could answer back and stood up, heading for the open door.

Neil closed his comm and stared out the view screen for a few moments. “What the blazes do I know about holding balls?”

Snickering at his own wording, he decided this tasking could wait until he was on duty. Yawning, he made his way back to bed hoping he could shut his brain down.

And trying to remember the last time he'd worn his full mess dress uniform.
