Mission:
Episode 12 - Risin' To Risa
Location: Operations Center - Deck 6 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD011 1330 hrs
Alyssa was sorry to hear that Claire and her family were gone as quickly as they'd arrived. The two women had become friends during the Pioneer's brief stay on Empok Nor, and the science officer hoped to continue the friendship, but the opportunity was too good for her friend to pass up.
Before things got too crazy, Alyssa made time to stop by and meet the new chief. She walked into main operations and paused, looking around to see if she could see the new officer.
Inside the operations department office, Thex was currently looking through the padd with the list of jobs needed to do before the ship got underway. So much to do and so little time. Looking up at the feeling of eyes on her Thex gave the new arrival a warm smile. " Hello, there lieutenant can I help you with something."
"I stopped by to say hello, if you have a minute. I'm Alyssa Maren from science." She glanced at the PADD in her hand. "I can come back if you're busy."
" No, not busy just finishing off some paperwork. Nice to meet you, Alyssa." She said standing up and offering her hand.
Alyssa shook hands and smiled. "Nice to meet you, too. I've only recently arrived myself."
" Well as you've been here before me how's the ship?" Thex inquired as she beckoned for her to take a seat.
The science officer inclined her head in thanks and sat down. "I can only comment on those I've met, but so far I like it here. The captain and first officer are both quite nice." She smiled. "I liked your predecessor, too. She helped me build a garden in one of the cargo bays."
" I hope to fill the job as well as she did. How is the garden coming along?" Thex inquired.
"So far so good." Alyssa smiled. "Everything is working as planned. It's now a matter of tending it until we're sure the plants have taken root and everything is growing as it should. Once we're satisfied, we plan to have an open house, of sorts, and invite everyone on the ship to visit. It's part experimental, part functional, and part decorative."
" I'll have to check it out. Not much plant life on Andoria." Thex replied " You have any other hobbies?" She inquired.
"My specialties are history and archaeology. They're also my hobbies," Alyssa admitted. "And I like to swim. I did a lot of it in college. What about you?"
" Oh, I'm up for trying anything at least once. I do swim as well trained as a free diver. My other main love is dancing." Thex replied.
"What sort of dancing?" Alyssa asked. "That's a broad subject."
" Oh, any that people want me to try, but my real love is for Orion dancing." Thex said with a grin on her face.
Alyssa shook her head. "More power to you. I'm not sure I'm ready to try anything like that. I like Terran ballroom myself."
" It's not for everyone, but I enjoy it. Never tried ballroom before." The Andorian responded.
"It's an old earth custom. Dance has been part of earth history from the beginning. Several cultures have their own forms of traditional dance. Ballroom evolved from the social dancing. I haven't tried forms from other worlds, although I've watched several of them."
" You'll have to show me some time," Thex responded. " Always up for learning about someone else's passion.
Alyssa nodded. "Sure. We can go to the holodeck some time. That's where I do most of my dancing."
" Set a date and I'll see if I can make it." Thex replied with a smile.
Alyssa nodded. "I will. I'll need to check my schedule in my office, but I will definitely let you know when I'm available for some dancing."
" Let me know when your free and we can set something up." Thex said with a warm smile as a bleep came from her computer. " Ah, the new emergency rations shipment is here. Sorry to cut this short but I should get down and make sure everything's in order." she said looking down.
Alyssa stood and nodded. "I'll definitely be in touch." She paused as she headed for the door. "Good luck with the supplies." She liked the new head of ops and looked forward to working with her.
" See you around," Thex called after her as she picked up the order form and hurried out the door.
