Mission: Episode 11 - Family Matters
Location: Chief Security Officer's Office - Deck 9 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD001 0800 hrs

Tyler made his way to Deck 9 and Larim Myles' office. All of the information that the Captain was receiving as of late about their new patrol sector had Tyler on edge. One just never knew what the Romulans could be or would be up to. He was glad that they had Vaebn, who still had some contacts and could glean some information. However, Tyler wanted to be ready for anything and so he found himself in front of the Security Office.

He stepped in and smirked at his Security Chief. "Morning Larim. I brought coffee." Tyler said as he placed a themos of the Captain's own special blend on Larim's desk. "How goes?"

"Better since you brought coffee" the Betazoid smiled. He put down a paddle and perked up. "Morning Captain." He said, pouring himself a cup.

"I think a good strategy session may be in order. This shift in our overall mission has got to have us shift how we run things around these parts. I would hate to be caught with our proverbial pants down. So tell me... What are your plans to deal with Romulans if that event arises." Tyler spoke as he took a seat and crossed his legs.

"First I'm planning to look into the sensors. Undoubtedly they'll be cloaked ships. Or at least thats a fair assumption." Larim began.

"Most likely and all of them may not belong to the Romulans. Rumor has it that since Hobus a lot of Romulan ships and technology has been sold off to other races and governments. We have to be ready... What of readiness drills?" Tyler replied and then sipped his coffee.

"On the way I plan to go through a few ideas on the holideck vased off our past encounters with the Romulans. You know, to get some tactical data in case we need it." Larim began. He sipped his coffee. "Ahh" he said in enjoyment. "That could lead into mock battles."

"Romulans are always Romulans. As such they would not deign to engage in full battles. They would be more inclined to do something covert, perhaps infiltration. Plan drills along those scenarios." Tyler responded, he had to make sure that Larim understood the situation. That Romulans had the capability to infiltrate this and any other starship in Starfleet.

Larim nodded. "Definitely, Captain. Ill draw em up asap. You can never be too prepared." he said, sipping some coffee. "Wouldn't put it past them to try and infiltrate command" he slightly chuckled.

"That is a distinct possibility..." Tyler said with steely face. He wished he could return Larim's joke. However, the idea of Romulans infiltrating Starfleet chilled him to the bone, the fact that he knew it could happen made it worse. "Coordinate with Tremble about those drills I would like his people ready to repel boarders as well should the need arise. Also rotate command authorization codes. If there is someone undercover on this ship I want to make it hard for them."

"Great idea." Larim said. "But lets assume for a minute that they have some device to get around command codes. Im thinking that an extra layer may be needed. Cant be too careful. Biometrics for sensitive areas, with a backup system.'

Sometimes having a Betazoid Security Chief is amazing. He can anticipate what I want. Tyler thought. "Get it done. All essential areas." He replied to Larim with a smile. "With all that is going on we have to remain ever vigilant."

"Ever vigilant" Larim smiled back. "Of course. I'll get my people together ASAP on this."

Tyler looked Larim in the eyes and the look on Tyler's face was one of worry and concern. "Larim I need all this to happen in secret. That is to say as far as the ship at large is concerned it is business as usual. No one is to be alarmed."

"Dont broadcast it, I gotcha." Larim said. "So the loop would be you, me, Tremble, and maybe the COB?"

Tyler smiled breifly at the thought of not telling Quinn about the drills. "You better let the XO know as well." He said with a chuckle. "But other than that no one else."

Larim nodded. "XO too." He made himself a quick mental note. "On the holders of course. The crew probably would want to see my guys and the marines running around with rifles."

"Get it done as quickly as possible Larim. But as quietly as possible as well." Tyler ordered as he arrived at the Turbolift.

"Consider it done already" Larim said

Tyler knew that he could count on Larim, just as he could count on every member of his crew. The Pioneer had been dealing with Cardassians so long Tyler wondered if everyone remembered the subtly it took to work with Romulans. Well we will soon find out. he thought as Larim and Tyler parted ways.
