Mission: Episode 15 - The Evil That Lies Beneath
Location: Bridge - Deck 1 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD003hrs 1200 hrs

It was on his schedule, Merrick could see it there. He had bridge duty of which Tyler had established early on. It hadn't been changed which meant, Edmund was going to report for duty. Maybe Tyler was just out of sorts and maybe sleep had helped to sweeten Tyler's disposition. One could only hope, but hope could actually be shattered quite easily. Giving a shrug, Edmund after taking one more look at his reflection, he gave himself a nod of approvlal. His uniform was crisp and clean, not one wrinkle upon it, his boots shined to a high gloss sheen. His personal uniform inspection, Edmund felt he'd past muster.

Edmund had a slight smile, and a almost soundless jaunty tune he whistled, as he got on the turbo-lift. "Bridge please." he said after the lift doors closed.

Tyler sat in the center seat and was of two minds. One side of his mind or consciousness wanted to leave, be with his wife and unborn child, just get some rest. He felt like he was beyond tired. Like butter being scraped across too much bread. The other side of his consciousness refused to let him leave the Bridge. They were all after him, after his ship. It all made sense he rose like a bolt of lightening and now people wanted to bring him down. Unfortunately for Tyler one was him and the other was not. At the moment Tyler seemed to lose this internal battle. So, he remained in his seat, ever vigilant for so long as he was there no one could take the ship from him.

The sound of the turbolift doors opening was expected. It was shift change, and his crew had to be allowed their time off. However, he did not expect to see a Marine exit the trubolift. "Captain Merrick. Can I help you?"

Wren glanced up from the helm at the sound of the turbolift opening, wondering if it was his relief briefly before turning his attention back to his station and updating the flight log with the current course and heading. The commodore was more than capable of handling whatever it was the marine captain was looking for.

"I am reporting for duty Commodore, just as the schedule has been made. Tactical and security, it is my shift hence my arrival. This is something that had been set up before our shoreleave, sir." Edmund responded, as sort of a reminder but a respectful one. In his peripheral vision he did catch the glance the helm officer on duty gave him. This was someone he'd not met yet.

"Your training will have to wait..." Tyler began, he knew he had to get rid of the Marine so he could not take the ship. "At the moment we are at key points in the experimentation process. Your training will have to wait."

Edmund's eyes narrowed slightly, and his mouth went into a grim line. It was as he feared, there was a change in Tyler's demeanor, he seemed a bit more... uneasy? At this point he'll have to play the game. "Very well sir, I will reschedule my part in bridge duty, as you wish, Commodore." Edmund preparing to step back into the turbolift.

Daris nodded when his relief came down to the helm and he gave over control with a small smile. He rushed to step towards the turbolift and catch it without having to run.

Seeing that the helmsman was making his way to the lift, Merrick kept the lift from closing until Daris stepped in. Once more glance at Tyler, wondering just how long the man had been staying seated upon the command chair.

Tyler ran a hand through the five o'clock shadow that developed on his face. He had not taken any time to himself since this had all began. For he knew that the minute he let his guard down they would come. As the turbolift doors closed he decided he would test the loyalty of this bridge crew. He turned to the Security Officer on duty. "Lieutenant I want a drill right here on the bridge. Please arrange for a takeover drill, one where someone tries to take the Bridge. Do not tell anyone when the drill is to begin."

When the turbo lift doors closed Merrick stood there for a moment quietly thinking about Tyler's behaviour. He had someone in the Turbolift with him, and he was curious about the ensign. "What deck would you like to go to Ensign-?" Merrick asked. "You already know my name, being sort of introduced by Commodore Malbrooke."

Wren smiled and offered his hand. "Wren. A pleasure to meet you, Captain. And Computer, Deck 4." He called out to the turbolift.

"I do have an odd question or two on some possible observations. How has Commodore Malbrooke seem to you? I don't know if you've had much in the way of interaction with him, have you observed anything about him?" Merrick accepting Wren's hand shake. "And also, welcome aboard." as the lift went on its way.

Wren smiled and nodded in gratitude before considering the question. A wrinkle in his brow forming in confusion at the question. "Unfortunately, I wouldn't know, Captain. I've only met the Commodore once when I took over and he was less than enthused at my appointment on his ship. Other than that, he's been pretty frosty towards me."

"Ah, definitely newly arrived, you'd not been able to see what he was like before. And a cold reception? That doesn't strike me as his normal behaviour."Edmund giving a nod. "He is normally a bit more, congenial. Especially with those who are assigned to the ship." He paused for a moment, "If you are of a mind to do so, I'd like to talk with you more say at the After 11? They've got good food and its a good start to get to know who is part of the crew."

Wren gave a flash of an apologetic smile and nodded in appreciation. "Thank you, Captain, but I must decline. Unfortunately I only arrived the other day. There isn't much I could tell you. In any case, I just got off duty and a bit tired. Perhaps another time for food." When the doors to the turbolift onto Deck Four, he bid the marine a good day.

"Enjoy your rest then" Edmund replied, with a congenial smile. He watched as Wren left the lift, and gave a command to the Lift. "Deck Nine." The door closed and went on its way.
