Mission: Episode 14 - The Poseidon Adventure
Location: Chief Counselor's Office - Deck 5 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD 007 1500 hrs

Shoreleave was great for many things: rest, relaxation, or in the case of a counselor with a large new ship, getting a lot of evaluations out of the way. She looked at her schedule and saw that the next person that she was scheduled to see was Gage Tohoyia. She took a quick look over his manifest and waited for him to appear.

Gage looked down at the PADD with a location on this deck. The Office of the Chief Counselor. He sighed, trying to muster the energy to go through with the mission. It wasn't that he had anything against counselors. He just knew himself better than anyone. He hated to waste her time. He toggled the entry chime and waited to see what would happen. The door slid open and he entered, came to attention, and said, " Lieutenant Gage Tohoyia, present as requested.

When Gage walked in, he could see Vura's office was decorated. At the entrance to her office, she placed some blooming lavender plants, that gave off a pleasant soothing smell. On a wall, over a couch, she had put up a copy of Katsushika Hokusai's "The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife" above a periwinkle couch that swooped up and then down in the middle and then back up again. The couch had definite sensual innuendos written all over the convenient shaping.

The walls of her office were of a deep rose with hints of purple hues. From there, she opted only for a small desk, so the desk would not set a barrier between her and her clients. It was a semi-circle and she placed it carefully in such a way where she could swivel on a chair and quickly type something on a computer or PADD and not interfere with her relationship with her client. The color of the desk nearly blended into the wall but was more mauve on closer inspection.

Warm wooded mahogany chairs were available in case her clients did not prefer to be on the couch. There was a small glass circle table between the chairs. The table contained a small zen sand garden and rake for clients to manipulate.

The Deltan rose from her chair and snickered lightly at the salute. "Oh, my!" she told Gage. "Usually when I get a salute, it is not like that," she told Gage with an amused tone. "Please be at ease, Lieutenant. This is not a place for titles or formalities.... Come on in. Make yourself comfortable, why don't you?"

"Of course,' Gage said. "Most of my previous visits with counselors have been with Starfleet Intelligence. They do things in a very buttoned-up kind of way. I wasn't trying to make your job easier. I know we have to meet together per regulations. Glad to be here."

"I would prefer that you think of this as a friendly chat, not an ordered meeting, Gage. I'm definitely glad to be meeting you. Why don't you tell me about yourself?"

Gage smiled and sat down in the chair opposite of the counselor. "I guess my story is pretty much like most officers'. I grew up in space. On a bulk freighter, actually. Applied to Starfleet on a whim. Never thought I'd get accepted but I did. I've worked as a security and tactical officer and then most recently I've been working with Starfleet Intelligence. I'm not married. No children. I'm currently assigned to the Pioneer as an infiltration specialist, which means I go in ahead of time or when something needs to be done covertly. I'm still finding my way around here. I haven't worked on a ship in some time."

"Well, I'm new here, as well. Perhaps we can help each other find our ways around." She leaned in, wondering what Gage's reaction to that would be. "But that tells me what you do and what you have done. It tells me nothing about who you are. I can find all of that information in your dossier."

"I'd be glad to have a partner in getting to know where everything is on this ship. I really don't know where anything is unless I ask the computer for directions, which is pretty embarrassing. But worse, I don't feel like a full member of the crew yet. When you work undercover, you tend to be alone a lot and I am good at that kind of work. It makes it hard for me to get close to regular people when you are used to working to get people to tell you things so you can use them against them," Gage said. He sighed. "I'm still not sure why I'm on this ship."

"Is that because you have not received specific orders or because you are confused as to the reason that you left your previous assignment, or something else entirely?" the Deltan probed.

"All of the above? My skillset is generally not assigned to starships. I am not an analyst, even though I can do that job. I'm a field operator and I tend to work by myself. The last time I was assigned to a ship I wasn't even in intelligence. I also haven't been given any concrete assignments yet," Gage said and then let out a big sigh. "It's probably just a lot of change in a short period of time and I am very much a creature of habit."

"Then this should be a very good experience for you. Shake things up. Get out of your comfort zone. Experience new things and see where that takes you. With a little luck, you may even discover new things about yourself."

"Let's not get out of hand," Gage said with a smile. "But who knows? I am always up for new experiences. Keeps life interesting."

"A dull life is a wasted life," Vura responded with a definitive tone. "If we do not experience, then why exist, hmm?"

"I hope to never live a dull life. I've been successful so far," Gage said. His combadge beeped and he tapped it, shrugging at the counselor. "It looks like my time is up here. I've been waiting on an intel brief that the Captain has asked me to look at ASAP. Can't keep him waiting."

The interruption seemed all too convenient. However, the Counselor was not going to keep him from the Captain. "We will continue this another time," Vura informed Gage.
