The Wheel Keeps on Turning - End of Year 2022
Posted on Tue Jan 3rd, 2023 @ 12:06am by Commodore Tyler Malbrooke
Well here we are and we made it through, 2022 comes to close. Another year over and a new one begins. As always lets hope that the next one is better than the last. As I look back at the last year I see a world coming out of the darkness that was quarantine. I see relationships born and reborn. Along with the rebirth comes births new little ones coming into the world in the past year and to come in the next year. I credit this community to helping us get through these doldrums. Your creative stories have always kept my mind looking to a better tomorrow.
As the year comes to close we look at the great things that we have all accomplished. I was blessed to have a baby on the way. I know that one of our community started a new and great job. This year saw a return of some of our old friends while we continue to remain as close as we are. As for myself this year started out difficult and finishes with greatness. It is my greatest hope that 2023 is better than the last year. The we continue to grow and learn.
So that is enough of the misty eyed adoration. Suffice to say 2022 had its ups and its downs. But the Pioneer is always one of the ups...
So without any gilding the lily and no further ado I would like to present a few end of year/beginning of year awards and promotions.
Promotions
To start things off the Command Team and myself felt that a couple of promotions were in order.
Tyler Malbrooke -
It has been five years since Tyler took command of the Pioneer, and what a five years it has been. Since taking command of Task Group Titan Tyler has proven his leadership skills and has been recognized for promotion by the fleet to the rank of Commodore. He knows that he could not have gotten to where he is without the efforts of this great crew.
Mira Jayna -
Since joining the Pioneer Mira has become an intrical part of the sim, its workings and the storyline as whole. Add to that the Intelligence Department is growing. Thank you for your great service to the Pioneer.
-Captain Tyler Malbrooke-
Ja'sol H'ros Re Seva -
Ja'sol joined the Pioneer and hit the ground running. He made quick work of some major Security and Tactical plot points during the latest mission. I am looking forward to seeing what he has in store for us in the future. Keep up the great work.
-Captain Tyler Malbrooke-
Edmund Merrick -
It’s my pleasure to recommend and award 1st Lt. Ed Merrick the rank of Captain of Marines. Since they joined Pioneer as a dedicated Marine writer (a rarity), they’ve been an active part of the crew and are always ready and willing to write. I have no doubt that as we progress, they’ll continue to do the Pioneer and Corp proud, especially leading the Cure on all manner of interesting missions.
-Major Cornelius Tremble-
Awards
Lieutenant Junior Grade Ja'sol H'ros Re Seva -
Captain's Personal Merit Award -
"Since joining the Pioneer Ja'sol has been a breath of fresh air in the Security Department. He demonstrates both the hard nosed battle hardened security officer and the softer more protective aspect as well. Add to that his willingness to lay it all on the line for the story. Keep up the great work Lieutenant. Thank you for being an intrical part of this crew."
-Captain Tyler Malbrooke-
Master Sergeant Lachlan Barr -
Executive Officer's Merit Award -
"It's a tough field because we have great writers, but when I thought about what I was most appreciative of at this point in time was a strong Command Staff (because they've been carrying some of my load). Command does a lot because we enjoy it. In this instance, I want to recognize our Chief of the Boat and thank them for their hard work, time and attention to the SIM."
-Major Cornelius Tremble-
Ensign Rachel Sinclair -
Second Officer's Award of Merit -
"After much consideration and debate with me, myself, I and more we have decided to award this months Second Officer's Award of Merit to Ensign Rachel Sinclair. For I found them to be very active and open from the day they joined our sim. For being a part of its crew and bringing them together with your ideas. You bring your own story to the table and let it live among the crew. You have been with us not that long, but it feels like you have been with us a long time. A well earned merit."
-Lieutenant Commander Rowena McGowen-
Staff Warrant Officer Mira Jayna -
Enlisted Award of Merit -
"I feel Jayna to be a prime candidate for this award. Their contribution to the current mission aside they have been a joy to write with and this character has been a part of the Pioneer for many year. I hope for many more to come."
-Master Sergeant Lachlan Barr-
Chief Petty Officer Sha’Zen D'Tem -
Departmental Service Badge: Science -
"Sha'Zen has been invaluable during the current mission. She gets involved in every post and finds ways to show her character's distinct personality. You never know what to expect from Sha'Zen, but it's always fun to play off."
-Lieutenant Commander Alyssa Maren-
Master Sergeant Lachlan Barr -
Departmental Service Badge: Marine -
"For doing an outstanding job in keeping the movement of the stories flowing, and he has had a dedicated spirit and passion in his writing."
-First Lieutenant Edmund Merrick-
Warrant Officer Mercy Ryan -
Departmental Service Badge: Marine -
"For the outstanding work you have done in the story."
-First Lieutenant Edmund Merrick
Corporal Sina Ravenna -
Departmental Service Badge: Marine -
"For the outstanding writing, and helping to keep the mission forward. Many thanks."
-First Lieutenant Edmund Merrick-
Lieutenant Paul Michael -
Air Medal -
"A pilot is expected to fly a ship through space and do it well. However, they are not expected to fly a ship under water. Paul handled the curve ball of piloting a submarine with the aplomb we have come to expect from him. Much like the pilots we have come to see on the screen in Star Trek Paul is earning his place among their names."
-Captain Tyler Malbrooke-
Ensign Paisley F'rar -
Meritorious Newcomer Award -
"The Ensign came aboard and got themselves involved in everything. A Cardassian/Bajoran is not an easy character to play when the Cardassian Occupation of Bajor and their siding with the Dominion are still in living memory."
-Lieutenant Commander Hermia O'Rourke-
Ensign Rachel Sinclair -
Meritorious Newcomer Award -
"Ensign Sinclair joined the sim with a very interesting backstory. They have only been with us for a short time and already the backstory is taking hold and finding a place within the greater story. This character came aboard and was thrown directly into the fire. They handled it as if it were just another balmy day. Already I cannot picture the Pioneer without them. Thank you for your wonderful stories and keep up the great work."
-Captain Tyler Malbrooke-
Lieutenant Junior Grade Ja'sol H'ros Re Seva -
Whoopi Goldberg Diversity Ribbon -
"In the short time that Ja'sol has been with the sim he has made his race known. The Eldoran race is a little known race from a very little part of the Trek story. He brings this race to life with what seems like little effort."
-Captain Tyler Malbrooke-
Chief Petty Officer Sha’Zen D'Tem -
George S Patton Jr Memorial Award -
"The Dark Shores series of posts began with a scientific expedition that got raided. Simple enough right, wrong... The writers on this team rolled with every punch I gave them and kept me guessing with the strategy they developed to overcome the attackers. With this being the lynchpin of the overall plot they made it exciting and showed brilliant tactics. Great work!!"
-Captain Tyler Malbrooke-
Ensign Mignon Mejia -
George S Patton Jr Memorial Award -

-Captain Tyler Malbrooke-
Mr Tumnus -
Non-Player Character Award -
"Mr Tumnus gets everywhere. Most departments are familiar with the ship cat, including the Marines. The adventures of the cat are a delight to read."
-Lieutenant Commander Alyssa Maren-
Chief Petty Officer Sha'Zen D'Tem -
Non-Player Character Award -
"Sha'Zen has been involved in all aspects of the science portion of this mission. She's great to write with and has some...unique responses to situations that really enhance posts."
-Lieutenant Commander Alyssa Maren-
Staff Sergeant Gaagii -
Non-Player Character Award -
"NPC's give us an opportunity to try different voices and maybe take a break from the same old same old. For GM's, it's a little different as they help fill out the rosters of away teams and mission profiles where you need a choir to tell the right story. And it's nice to get them out and learn more about them. We don't often get to hear from our Recon guru, but he's a very cool character and I want to think the boss for airing him out lately."
-Major Cornelius Tremble-
Lieutenant Junior Grade Zhara Rynn -
Outstanding Post Ribbon -
" For the post titled "Dream, Nightmare, or Guilt" It has been quite a long time since we had a real counseling post and this one suits that bill. It also gives us a great look into the character that is Edmund Merrick. Thank you to both Merrick and Rynn for this wonderful piece of writing."
-Captain Tyler Malbrooke-
First Lieutenant Edmund Merrick -
Outstanding Post Ribbon -

-Captain Tyler Malbrooke-
Master Sergeant Lachlan Barr -
Support Character of The Month -
"Lachlan has served as the Chief of the Boat for some time now. In that capacity he is one hell of an asset. However, in the past month he has stepped up his support. Making sure the plot moved along when needed and keeping conversation on the Discord going. Thank you for everything that you do."
-Captain Tyler Malbrooke-
First Lieutenant Edmund Merrick -
Character of The Month -
"It is always helpful when a player steps up to help keep a post going when it stalls out, and to keep the plot flowing. Merrick has done all of that and more in the past month. They always pop on the Discord channel to say hello and even ask after someone if they have not signed on in a while. Thank you for being the beacon this award exemplifies."
-Captain Tyler Malbrooke-
Captain Tyler Malbrooke -
Professional Merit Award -
"The captain makes every player on the ship feel welcome and important. He is a generous writer who is supportive in and out of posts. He's a great team player who makes sure other characters are involved and frequently uses his NPCs to interact with others."
-Lieutenant Commander Alyssa Maren-
Lieutenant Commander Hermia O'Rourke -
Outstanding Character Award -
"Our Doc has her hands in literally everything this sim does. They also has the distinction of having the most NPCs on the sim. Their efforts to keep the story of the Pioneer going has been recognized in some fashion by every member of the Command Team. It is for all of these reasons and more that we award the Outstanding Character Award to Hermia O'Rourke."
-Captain Tyler Malbrooke-
Major Cornelius Tremble -
Outstanding Executive Officer Award -
"In the five short years that the Pioneer has been around I have gone through a few Executive Officers. However, this sim would not be where it is if it was not for Major Tremble. When my life gets in the way of running the sim he is always there to pick up the slack and help out. Ever ready with a great story to write or something to keep his Marines busy. I am forever in your debt. Thank you for being part of this community and for being a dear friend."
-Captain Tyler Malbrooke-
"I would like to make this nomination to our outstanding Major Cornelius Tremble. He probably thinks he doesn't deserve this award, but I am sorry, Major, I disagree. Your input and effort in your function since the day you took up the position has been top notch. You have ideas, your are very involved in all the intricacies of this ship and it's crew. You are honest yet open and even if you think you failed because of our shortcomings as the crew, you haven't, they are our shortcomings and you did what you should as an executive officer and some of us, myself included, may have come over as not interested due to our inactivity, but from my personal experience, this is not the case. Please continue what you're doing and thank you for being our first officer."
-Lieutenant Commander Rowena McGowen-
"Tremble has been an outstanding figure not only in character but out. On Discord is always chips in with words and conversation and has been guiding us on the current mission at hand. They are a joy to write with and always an incredibly insightful and wise member of the command team. I truly believe we are in a far better place with him as the XO and hope he is at the helm (second seat) for many years to come :)"
-Master Sergeant Lachlan Barr-
"I'd like to recognize Tremble for being an outstanding XO of the USS Pioneer. He has been actively helping to move stories along, and providing some humorous aspects as well."
-First Lieutenant Edmund Merrick-
Captain Tyler Malbrooke -
Outstanding Commanding Officer Award -
"For the time I have been a part of the USS Pioneer, I have seen a great passion and love for his ship and his crew. Captain Tyler Malbrooke is someone I can call a friend, and when we speak of the USS Pioneer his voice virtually glows as to how much he is invested in the sim. Thank you, it has been a great honor to be on this ship with you."
-First Lieutenant Edmund Merrick-
I would like to add that I am proud of each and every one of you. Your writing and your friendship never ceases to amaze me. You all have taken a small idea that I had and turned it into this amazing world that we all get to run around in. Keep up the great work. Here is to an amazing year. Let's make 2023 even more amazing.
For Now
Steady As She Goes,
Captain Tyler Malbrooke
Commanding Officer, USS Pioneer
