Thalk walked towards the holodecks, central in the ship, as he looked over power expenditures on his PADD. Holodecks drew enough energy on their own, but to build a hospital within one, and to be prepared to run it with a limited strain on the ship's systems, was an entirely different prospect.

As he arrived at the specified deck, the Klingon engineer reached out to the Chief Medical Officer over the comms. "Lieutenant Ballston, Thalk here. Are you ready to see what we can do?"

=/\=On my way=/\=,the physician said tapping his badge and leaving his office.

He was pleased the the holodecks were on the same level as sickbay and as such using them for overflow seemed an excellent idea. He grabbed a PaDD off his desk and brushed his fingers across the Braille bumps and smiled as he moved through the the doorway into the corridor and saw the Engineer ahead of him.

"I hope we can work this out Lieutenant," Richard said as he approached, "I think we can do this without too much of a drain on the systems."

"Assuming the deck is functioning properly, it will simply be a matter of programming to your needs. Given the nature of the Badlands, I'll wager that's more than we can ask for." The Klingon smoothed out the wrinkles on the front of his apron, his hands looking for something to do. "I am not a doctor. What equipment will be needed here?"

Richard grinned at the man, "well let's first agree that this is a space in the ship that holodecks are an area of the ship that is generally not used during conflict on naturally occurring threats. Can we look at both the holodecks as general space then to be utilized? We don't have to necessarily run the programs just get light beds and other physical equipment in there. We would want that in case the programs can't run anyway."

"Fair enough." Practicality was something the engineer respected. "It won't be difficult to use the infrastructure of the holodeck to power the lightbeds. Easy enough to switch back, as well. I'll make the requisite adjustments to the gelpacks. Anything else?"

"If we could have the hologram working enough when it is functional to turn the cots into biobeds where we could examine patients easier and place the less severe cases until one of the real ones became available in main sickbay," Richard said with a nod, "that would be helpful but absolutely necessary."

"Not a problem. I'll begin replicating the physical components, and programming deck, as soon as possible." Thank had expected this to be a difficult overhaul, and was pleasantly surprised to see that it wasn't. "We should be operational by tomorrow."

"Thank you, I'll get the extras medical supplies," Richard took in a breath and added, " just hope I never have to use it,"

"With any luck, the new shields hold, and all of this is a moot point."

"Well lets hope they do," Richard said with a sigh, "I've seen too many times when they haven't."

Thalk's eyes narrowed, in assessment and respect. "Seen much fighting, Lieutenant?"

"Three wars," Richard replied, "yes I've seen more than my share."

"With any luck, those days are behind both of us." Thank had no idea who he was trying to convince.

"We can hope," Richard said as he tilted his head slightly and offered a smile. He drew in a deep breath and offered a nod, "if you think of anything more please let me know."
