Mission:
Episode 15 - The Evil That Lies Beneath
Location: Operations - Deck 6 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD002 1030 hrs
Home! I'm going home! Well, at least I hope that I'm going home to engineering, Connor told himself as he practically danced, or as much as he could skip, down the corridors. Sure, he nearly fell into a few people and he got a lot of strange looks, but if he could just get Thex to say that he was no longer necessary in Ops, he could scuttle back to Engineering and bury himself in machines and computers to his heart's content, or at least Elen's content, as the case might be.
Of course, he would have to sort out this Milly problem while there, but she certainly was less of a problem that Thex or T'Ket as far as Connor was concerned. Also, from what he could tell, Milly probably liked him. He still was not certain whether she had romantic interest in him, which he knew he would have to shut down right away, or wanted to be a friend, which was fine by him. So, a friendly face in engineering that he could almost talk to normally was definitely welcome.
All of these thoughts brewing in his brain, he found himself in Ops in a much quicker time than he expected. Time really does fly when you're having fun, doesn't it? You found that out with Marjani too. He made a beeline for Thex. "Um, sir, er, ma'am, uh, do you have a moment?" There was a smile on his face, but his eyes were looking everywhere except at Thex.
Thex had been at her desk looking over the latest list of deliveries the ship was expecting. Freezing the padd she looked up. " What can I do for you, ensign?" she asked looking at Connor. She did notice how he kept trying not to look at her, though she said nothing.
"Well, um, you see sir, er, ma'am, I, uh, wanted to thank you, um, well, for the good reports while I have been, well, here in ops." Connor's voice pitched higher as he tried to contain his excitement. "Um, you might recall that I was transferred here, um, temporarily from engineering by Lieutenant Diari."
Connor shuffled uncomfortably. "Well, um, you see, the reason for my temporary transfer, well, no longer exists, and well, I went to Lieutenant Diari earlier and she said, well, if you were, um, well, no longer in need of me, um, well, I could return back to engineering for my normal duty shifts." He briefly glanced towards Thex hopefully and then let his eyes hit the floor again.
"Connor, calm down. You're a hard-working crewman who deserves the positive reports. I'm glad you're going back to what makes you happy." Thex replied with a reassuring smile on her face.
Usually, telling a person to calm down has the opposite effect, but with Connor it did have some positive effect. "So, I can go, then?" he asked, daring a quick look at the Andorian.
"Have you finished all your paperwork and the tasks I gave you yesterday?" Thex inquired.
"I have finished everything," Connor replied happier than he probably should. "I can make sure the paperwork is done before end of this shift, though I do not think I have, well, much."
"Good, good, good." Thex said bringing up her to do list. "Nothing of vital importance that needs doing. Just make sure everything is written up and your desk is clear, and you can get back to engineering."
"Yes, ma'am!" Connor exclaimed, quickly turning his back before he could view Thex or she could change her mind.
"Good luck." Thex said with a grin on her face as Connor headed for the door.
