Zero Sum Call - Episode 4 Wrap Up
Posted on Tue Oct 16th, 2018 @ 1:22am by Commodore Tyler Malbrooke
As we close Episode 4 The Sum of Our Parts I reflect on the mission and what we have learned. First I ask all of your forgiveness as this mission was slow going. I have learned that a mission like this which has mostly solo posts will be slow. Some people will finish before others. For that slow down I apologize. However, let us look at what went well.
This crew is ridiculously creative, the universe ideas that came out were not only interesting to read but in some cases riveting. I know that the posts that I personally was involved in was a joy to write. I also want to thank all of you for going with me on this little experiment.
I cannot express my gratitude enough, nor can I give you enough thanks. Just know that I am thankful and proud to call you all my crew and friends.
But that is enough of the gushing on to the fun stuff. With the close of the episode comes the accolades for all of your hard work. So without any gilding the lily and no further ado I give you the rewards.
Promotions
Andrew "Chaos" Moore -
Since joining the Pioneer Andrew has added his unique spin on things in his department and outside his department. He has also been an immensely huge help behind the scenes here on the Pioneer. It is for these reasons and many more that I promote him to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer with all of the rights and privileges therein. Furthermore it with profound gratitude and pleasure that I welcome him to the Command Team by granting him the position of Chief of the Boat. His purview on the command team will be to run side plots that will be unique to the enlisted personnel on this ship. Welcome the madhouse Chaos.
Elloma Essu -
What can be said about Elloma? From the start they volunteered for a character development plot that I had not even thought of for the Captain. From that point on they have been an invaluable addition to this crew. Both in posting and the community. I have enjoyed watching her grow and will continue to be amazed as we go through the future missions. For these reasons I hereby promote her to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade with all of the rights and privileges therein. I expect big things from you in the future, keep it up.
Jennifer Masters -
Since joining the Pioneer Jennifer has shown not only a fantastic capability to write but an ability to lead. Behind the scenes she has assisted in settling disputes, as well as alerting command to potential issues on the ship. She has contributed ideas to keep the storyline moving along when it looked like it was slowing down. For these reasons and a lot more I am proud to grant her the rank of Warrant Officer Grade 1 with all the rights and privileges therein. Furthermore I would like to welcome her to the Senior Staff as she takes the reigns of the Intelligence Department. Jennifer the Belly of the Beast is yours try not to give it indigestion.
Awards
And now for the awards from this mission. These awards are well deserved, especially because this mission was a tough one to write. Well done to everyone, but as always those who go above and beyond deserve special recognition.
Petty Officer First Class Jennifer Masters -
Captain's Personal Merit Award -
"The concept for the mission "The Sum of Our Parts" was a tough one for any writer to grasp. However, Masters jumped in not only writing her character's journey through time, but volunteering to help with the other crew members as well. I was uniquely impressed with the way they were able to adapt their writing style to fit the all of the multiverses. Very well done, and well deserved."
-Captain Tyler Malbrooke-
Lieutenant Larim Myles -
Executive Officer's Merit Award -
"This mission saw the Lieutenant go through some trying times away from the sim. However, during this time he managed to stay up with his posting. He even managed to quicken the speed of his tags. Time management can be very hard, and I want to recognize him for keeping it together. Great work, now keep it up."
-Captain Tyler Malbrooke- (granted the award as the XO was on LOA)
Lieutenant Hermia O'Rourke -
Crew's Choice Award -
"Very active writer, a wonderful personality. The quality of writing is very good. I hope this writer wins this award."
-Lieutenant Junior Grade Elloma Essu-
Second Lieutenant Cornelius Tremble -

"I have enjoyed reading the post series "A Life According to Hoyle." Especially part three. I was asking myself, who in the hell is Amelia. The writer has a way of hooking you into the story!"

Lieutenant Junior Grade Elloma Essu -
Outstanding Volunteer Award -
"During the past mission Elloma has really stepped up. Not only with writing but by offering assistance behind the scenes. They have offered council in situations when council was desperately needed. As CO of this ship I know that Elloma will be there to assist in any capacity should they be called upon."
-Captain Tyler Malbrooke-
Captain Tyler Malbrooke -
Ribbon of Commitment TF Level Award -
Captain Tyler Malbrooke, is a constant professional. And always recruiting for him. And keeping in contact with his crew. His leadership and commitment, is the main reason his sim is striving. Captain Malbrooke is very active on his discord, and talking to his crew. Taking input, and incorporating ideas, as they fit. He is flexible and willing to assist anyone under his command." -Lieutenant junior Grade Elloma Essu- This award is granted with the full blessing and support of Rear Admiral Oliver Lancaster Commanding Officer of Task Group 47 Obsidian Fleet.
Captain Tyler Malbrooke, Captain Harold Anderson, Lieutenant Junior Grade Elloma Essu, & Lieutenant Commander Bervag Bers -
Most Creative Cross Sim Post Ribbon -
I am putting the post "Bonded in Time" up for this award for this mission. In this post the writer behind Captain Anderson is the same as Elloma Essu and they pulled double duty. Switching from one character to the next very often in mid paragraph without disrupting the flow of the post. I also appreciate the fact that the writers were ready willing and able to give their characters from another sim a chance to play out in an alternate universe. Well done to all involved. Bravo..."
-Captain Tyler Malbrooke-

Lieutenant Larim Myles -
"This ship has made it through it's first year. Like programs on TV the first year of a sim is always the roughest. I want to thank each of you for getting us through it. Onward to new heights. Larim is one of the original four as I call them. In fact he is the only one remaining of those original four. So thank you for sticking it out."
-Captain Tyler Malbrooke-
To sum up... I feel that that this mission was a success despite all of the setbacks and the slowdown in posting. The success is because it has taught me as a CO a few things. Perhaps with this mission we bit off more than we can chew, but as the sim grows so shall we learn. I am happy to say that we add a new face to our crew and welcome them with open arms. On the up side this mission has shown me how creative you can be with your characters and the decisions that they make. To that end I have created a mission group for Alternate Universes. If you would like to continue your AU story as a side plot then by all means. The sky is the limit...
As always you all amaze me to know end and I am exceptionally thankful to have you all as my crew. It you fine folks that have kept this sim running for the past year and will continue to keep it running in the year to come. Speaking of the year to come. You may have noticed that I have changed the skin of the site. This is to reflect the tone of the stories that will be coming this year. The Pioneer will take a darker tone as we march to war and a large scale fight. Think if you will the tone of Deep Space Nine at the start of the Dominion War.
In closing let's hit the ground running this year and write the stories and tell the tales that we have all longed to hear.
As always I am humbled by your writing and your faith in my stories.
For Now
Steady As She Goes,
Captain Tyler Malbrooke
Commanding Officer, USS Pioneer
