Power Requirements

Mission:
Episode 10 - New Home, Same Pioneers
Location: Deck 1 - Main Bridge - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD011 1500 hrs
Eleanor gently tapped the padd in her hand as she made her way to the bridge. Her office was all set up to her liking and the extra equipment that she had brought was set up. All she needed to do now was discuss the extra power requirements with the Chief Operations Officer, after all she wanted to ensure the extra load would not disrupt any critical systems or cause Operations any problems, plus it would be the perfect opportunity to introduce herself.
The turbolift doors opened and Eleanor stepped out, the bridge always looked small to her, cramped. She smiled as she looked about to her left was the Operations station an as the computer indicated the Chief Operations Officer was on duty. Eleanor slowly walked over. "Lieutenant." Eleanor said smiling "Or do you prefer Ma'am or Sir?" she asked, it was the one confusing thing that she could never get her head around, prior to joining Starfleet she simply addressed people as she wished, but all these rules and regulations sometimes gave her a headache.
Ameri had glanced up when the woman had come onto the bridge. She watched as she headed over and spoke to her.
"I am good with either," Ameri replied. "I"m Lieutenant O'Flannagain, what can I help you with..." She waited for her to identify herself.
"Well Ma'am, I'm Ensign Eleanor Raine, the ships Diplomatic Advisor, pleased to meet you." She said extending her hand out , the cogs turning in her head. "O'Flannagain, the ships XO is an O'Flannagain, are you...." she shut up, her trail of thought sinking, she was speaking to a superior officer, life on a starship was certainly going to get be difficult to adjust to. "My apologies Ma'am."
"I'm not easily offended," Ameri said in reply a smile on her face. "It is nice to meet you and yes I am related to the first officer. Commander O'Flannagain is my husband." Almost everyone asked that question, she was getting used to it now. "Welcome aboard,."
"Thank you, Ma'am. It's a pleasure to be here," she said with a smile, showing her appreciation to the warm welcome, and also making a mental note of connection between the XO and the COO. "I just wanted to discuss some additional power requirements for some of my diplomatic equipment. I didn't want it to impact on any critical systems and just wanted to make you aware of the need for some extra power requirements sometimes."
"I appreciate that," Ameri murmured. "Shall we head into one of the offices and discuss it or do you have it on a padd for me?"
"Oh, I'm nothing if but prepared," Eleanor said, handing over the padd, while glancing around the bridge. "I know the equipment can be a little power-hungry, but it's only used when necessary, it's not constantly required but when it's needed, it will probably light up like a Christmas Tree and as I said, I don't want to compromise anything or causing a panic at the sudden power demand, I've made that mistake before," she said with a chuckle.
Ameri smiled. “We can adjust things so that you have what you need, I will have to run it by the Engineering Chief as well as the captain but there shouldn’t be any problem.”
"Of course, completely understandable. Any problems just let me know," she said smiling back, so far the crew had made her feel nothig but welcome, they all seemed nice people, "Oh and if you wouldn't mind Ma'am, I would like to shadow yourself or one of your subordinates. I'm looking to supplement my duty roster with additional duties for times when my diplomatic skills are not required or a little quiet, so I'm thinking of spending a day shadowing various departments to see if my skill set can be put to use. If you don't mind of course."
“I am fine with that,” Ameri smiled at her. “And I will let my staff know as well. That way you can get a feel for what the different officers do.”
"Excellent," she replied, her smile wide "I appreciate it, I still have a few more duties to perform but I shall schedule something in, thank you, Ma'am. Anyway I shall leave you to your duties, I've taken up enough of your time." she said glancing around the bridge, taking it all in, the noise the suttle hum of activity before she quaintly nodded her head at the Lieutenant and made for the turbolift.
“Thank you for meeting with me,” Ameri said sincerely. “And welcome aboard.” She watched the ensign leave and headed out to finish her bridge shift. Then, she would meet with the captain or Quinn to authorize the power changes Ensign Raine wanted.
