Mission: Episode 10 - New Home, Same Pioneers
Location: Marine CO's Office, USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD008 1030 hrs

Neil entered his office, double checking the environmental controls of his work space and fetching a cup of cha’ before eyeing his desk. His contact linked in with the command suite and began bringing up his virtual In-Basket. As usual, he had an assortment of ‘Last Minute’ information requests that had sat on someone els’s desk for a couple of weeks before that desk-veteran had noticed that it was due post haste and had shuffled it out for Neil (as low man on the comm chain).

He sat on the corner of his desk, sipping t the cha’ as he prioritized and sifted through the messages.

Once he had a working pile, he sent all of the personnel review files into a folder and began printing flimsies for him to work on when he could finally bring himself to sit at his desk and commit himself to being an admin weenie for the day.

Again.

After twenty minutes and no klaxon called him to battle, Neil sighed and slid off of his desk, refilled his mug and reluctantly slid into his desk chair.

Three hours later, he had finished other people’s work and turned to the first thing in his own To-Do file and picked up a flimsy that he’d been working on and called out.

“Tremble to Moreau, report to my office.”

Fortunately Adelaide was just down the hall when the Captain had put out his call for her. She had been doing a little light training, so it was nothing too exhausting.

Moving from room to room she moved in front of the Marine CO's office and rang the bell.

Neil saw the motion sensor go off on his door seconds before the annunciator went off. He flickered his eye at the control that opened the door and said, "Come in, Lance Corporal. Grab a seat."

The Captain gestured to the set of leather and wood framed chairs that sat before his desk and he watched her enter as he shifted some flimsies and pads around on his desk top.

As obedient as she was in professional situations she moved to the seat and sat down. "What can I do for you sir?" she asked.

"Eval time again, Lance Corporal," Neil said. "Career development, gripe session. You know the drill. So, tell me how you're finding the Cure, serving aboard the Pioneer. What you're looking for in career development. That sort of thing. Just pick a point in the pond and dive in."

Adelaide tied her hair back as Tremble spoke, it had came loose whilst she was doing a little PT and she had only just noticed it.

"Career development..." She said scratching the back of her head. "I have been a SAR Specialist for 7 years now sir. I enjoy it, even if I haven't been doing a lot of role specific tasks of late." she began. "Although I'm not asking for you to cause a disaster for me just so I can locate people!" she said holding her hands up. "Developmental wise I suppose I am happy?" she asked. "I mean do you think I need to improve sir?"

"People can tend to stagnate and working with Detachments aboard starship's provides automatic cross-training. It looks like you've been keeping up with engineering classes that go with Damage Control aboard Pioneer. I just like to know who may or may not feel like they've meshed with the unit," Neil commented. "I don't have any complaints. Where do you see yourself in five years: job and corp wise?"

"I like to keep options open sir." Adelaide replied. "I often go to the holodeck to keep myself up-to-date with my SAR training but I have been looking into small areas that benefit the ship. So like as you said, engineering. Basic engineering." she continued. "As for 5 years from now I'd at least like to think I'd have made Sergeant by then. I'd never dream of knocking Sergeant Flarn off his pedestal..."

'Takes him a while to get up there.' she amusingly thought to herself.

"I like our team. The Cure is pretty awesome sir. I feel like I make a difference here."

"Well, career development is part of the review, "Neil said, moving to the better part of his duties, "I'm happy to let you know that I'm approving you promotion to Corporal. It'll take a few days and we'll do a small ceremony at the start of the open house. Congratulations, Corporal Moreau."

For once Adelaide was speechless. She had no idea this was coming, usually she was quite perceptive but not this time and a promotion, where it was welcome, was unexpected. She'd put the hours in, done the work and to get recognition was always nice.

"Thank you sir." Adelaide smiled. "I like a good party, well ceremony but it'll be nice to get everyone in one place to let our hair down." she went to stand but as always had to wait to be dismissed. To just walk out would be sacrilege.

"Very well, Corporal. You're dismissed," Neil told her and then turned his attention to his desk once more.
