Mission: Episode 8 - The Silence
Location: Office of the Executive Officer - Deck 2 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD005 1500 hrs

Jayna spent a good deal of her free time working on the special project for Commander Quinn. So far, she'd spent most of her time in Astrometrics, but she now had some information to report to him.

She set an appointment and headed for his office.

Quinn walked her into the room, and asked her to have a seat, but not before getting her a beverage. "Thank you for coming by, I was hoping for an update." Quinn said, as he looked to Jayna. Eager to learn, what she had discovered.

"I went first to get permission to work in Astrometrics." She began. "I told the Chief it was for an intel project and I couldn't discuss it with him." Jayna smiled. "You should know, he's already curious about what happened to the ship. I wouldn't be surprised if he goes looking into the computer himself."

"I trust him, but the less people who know about this. The better our chances will be, in figuring out what happened. What did you discover?" Quinn asked, as he waited for her to debrief him.

She took out a PADD and set it on Quinn's desk. "I don't know how much you know about Astrometrics, but it's a great place to find information. It receives passive data from the long range sensors, as well as data packets from relay buoys. That ensures the ship has the most recent stellar maps and planetary information. It also means you can see where a ship has been by looking at that data. Most people don't look there. If you look over the PADD, you'll see that the Pioneer definitely had some adventures of its own. I don't know yet who's behind it, but I know where they went."

"Don't keep me in suspense?" Quinn asked her, as he picked up the data pad. He had been hoping she would be able to get them a lead. He was hopeful she had a good solid lead, they could follow.

"I could speculate that it involves certain Cardassian and Maquis leaders, but I would rather have more information first." There was a definite twinkle in her eye as she spoke. "I do think there's something going on beyond the Pioneer disappearing. I get the feeling something is building. I just hope we can find out what it is before it explodes."

"What ever you need to solve this, you will have the full support of myself and Captain Malbrooke." Quinn suggested to Jayna, as he went on. "Follow this lead up, at all cost. I know its too early to speculate, but if there is a threat, the sooner we find out about it. The sooner we can stop it."

Jayna nodded. "I will. It's like peeling an onion. As soon as I get through one layer, I find another." She grinned. "But that's part of the fun. You never quite know what you'll get. Is there any data available on the Maquis I could use to compare locations? The current intel is sketchy."

"I have the upmost confidence in your abilities, to see this through." Quinn suggested to Jayna. He knew bringing her on, was a good step. He was finally making some headway. He wondered, what she would uncover.

"So basically, I'm on my own here." She grinned. "They're very good at covering their tracks. But I wasn't always Federation, and I don't always play by the rules, so I'll keep digging and see what I come up with."

"The more people who know about this, the bigger the risk of the perpetrator getting away." Quinn pointed out Jayna. He wanted answers too. "I am sending to you an experienced officer, what do you know of Crewman Makeba Brown?" Quinn asked her.

She understood the need for privacy, which made the research both harder and easier. "Isn't she Maquis?" Jayna asked.

"She is reformed, we are giving her a short leash, you will be in charge over here." Quinn said, as he went on. "She has vital information, that should help you in this search."

"My sister and I met her on Empok Nor." She smiled. "As a former Maquis myself, I look forward to working with her and hope she is truly reformed."

"You will be the first to know. And I have no doubt, you notify me, if she is trying to play us." Quinn said, as he handed her a data pad. It was Makeba's file.

"I will. Thank you." Jayna took the PADD and glanced at it. She was curious about Makeba and if she really had reformed. "If there's nothing else, I'll find another place to start digging, and have a chat with Ms. Brown."

"Were good, thanks for the update." Quinn said, as he then wanted to address a concern he had about her. "How is Staff Warrant Officer Masters, handling this special assignment of yours? I know it must not be easy on her to be left in the dark." Quinn pointed out to Jayna.

"Keep me apprised, if that changes." Quinn told her, as he got up and walked over to his door. The scene starts to fade away.

"Yes, sir," she replied. She gave the commander a polite nod as she walked out of the door, hearing it swish closed behind her.
