Mission: Episode 8 - The Silence
Location: Quarters of Dr Richard Ballston - Deck 2 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD004 1741 hrs

Richard heard the terminal in his quarters chime and he gave it a puzzled look. He was in the kitchen preparing a quiet supper after a long day in medical. With the away team on the planet there was plenty to worry about. Missions such as this never went smooth, a lesson he had learned over his long career.

“Incoming transmission from Adibah Ve’hassi,” came the computer’s female voice.

“Adibah,” Richard said as he hurried over to the console.

“Computer,” the physical began as he was still on the way over to the view screen, “I accept the incoming call from Adibah Ve’jassi”

Calls from any of the women he was bonded to were rare. Most calls went through a screening process and he also knew the women had busy lives, too busy for calls meant just to chitchat. There was also the telepathic connection, something Richard was still getting used to but typically he could feel little if anything this far away from his family. Still, something struck him that this was urgent, deadly urgent and he wasn’t sure exactly why.

He was already seated as the Azzian woman’s face came on the screen. It was obvious she had been crying, perhaps still was and from what he could see in the background she was in their quarters.

“Adibah,” he began as he saw her, “dear, what is wrong?”

The dark haired woman took in a breath as if bracing herself for what she had to say, “Fahli’, Fahli’ has left Empok nor.”

“What?” Richard’s brow furrowed deeply as he tried to fathom what he was being told

“She took an Azzian starship from here minutes ago Richard and she is on the way home.”

“Home,” Richard questioned, “you mean back to Azzia?”

The woman nodded her head, “she said she had to find out what was going on at the ministry of health, said she couldn’t wait to tell you, she had to go, now.”

Richard sat there stunned for a moment as the information sat in, “Fahli’.” The look of confusion and concern said more than the name did about his state of mind, “what does she hope to accomplish? She could get herself killed.”

Adibah’ nodded as tears welled up in her eyes, “I know and we already miss her, now, I know you will.”

The man nodded, “yes, yes but she will come back, we have to believe that.”

“I know,” the woman replied, “Lie’halla is on her way here from the Ambassador’s office and Abigail is still in school.”

“Does Abigail know,” Richard asked fighting his lower lip “is she, alright.”

The woman on the other end started to reply and then her head turned to something off the screen. Richard could hear the door hissing open and see the startled look on Adibah’s face.

“What’s going on,” he asked with even more concern on his face, “Adibah’.”

“No, what do you want……..” The connection first flickered as the console view showed the roof the apartment and then went dead.

“Adibah’,” Richard shouted as if she could still hear him.

“Computer,” the physician ordered trying desperately to tell someone what was going on, “connect me to Empok nor security, emergency status, high priority,”

“Unable to comply,” the computer answered calmly.

Richard slammed a fist down onto the table and tapped his COM badge, “Security this is Lieutenant Commander Ballston, something has just happened at Empok, nor, I think, I think someone just attacked the Assistant Azzian Ambassador in her quarters.”
