Episode 7 - Home Again
Location: Deck 5 - Counseling Office - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD007 0900 hrs
Zhara Rynn was thrilled to be assigned to the USS Pioneer. She was out on the frontier and on a ship where she believed she could do some good. Not that she couldn't be of help in any assignment, but this felt different. This was new and exciting. There was an energy on the ship that made her want to sing.
She found the counseling office assigned to her and paused in the doorway, pleased at what she saw so far. The overstuffed couch and two matching chairs of her conversation area were already in place. She ran her hands along the warm dark blue fabric, pleased at the way it felt to her touch.
The textured walls were a heavy cream with just a hint of lemon and the desk a warm mahogany. The colors built a palette that was pleasing to the eye. "So far, so good," she said to Sophia. The therapy dog was busy sniffing around the office. When she heard her name, she looked up and wagged her tail before going back to exploring.
"Computer, play Mozart." Soft strains of music danced through the room as Zhara began to unpack. She first hung her paintings, one of the Andes, one of Mount Seleya, one of desert cacti, and one of a Carpathian woods. They were all places she found both relaxing and stimulating.
Then she unpacked a rock sculpture and set it in the corner under the recessed lights and turned it on. Water cascaded over the rocks, filling a small pool that fed into a pump to be cycled back to the top. She listened to the music for a moment. "Computer, now play Handel's Water Music." The music picked up tempo and she smiled. "Very nice."
She added a long planter with fern along another wall, put some accent pillows on the couch and stepped back to see if she liked the balance. A few adjustments and she nodded. "Good." Finally, she put five candles on a small side table and a three-tiered candy tray on the coffee table. "What do you think, Sophia?"
The poodle went over to the couch and curled up beside it on the floor. "Oh, yes. I almost forgot." She opened another box and took out the dog's bed. Sophia stood so she could put it in its proper place and lay back down. "Now, I think we're ready."
She folded up the boxes and took them to the outer office to be recycled.
When she returned, she lit a vanilla-scented candle on her desk and sat down, closing her eyes for several minutes to feel the ambience. Then she logged in and began to familiarize herself with her new ship and crew.
