Mission: Episode 5 - It Would Be Their Pleasure
Location: Science Lab
Timeline: MD009 1130 hrs

Quinn, was tired of sitting down, and even though he not officially requested a meeting with the chief science officer, he decided why not have an improv meeting with him on his turf. Quinn had read the file on Lieutenant Vaebn tr'Hwersuil. The file was pretty comprehensive, but it did not tell him much, about his personality, or how the two of them would get a long? Could a Romulan get a long with the Irishman first officer? He strolled into the science lab, and just had a look around. He wanted to see how Vaebn interacted with his crew, and first encounters. Quinn smiled, as he waited for Vaebn.

Vaebn was going over the passive and active sensor data from the quantum anomaly that had sent them scattered across the theoretical multi-verse, trying to find out how it had happened, and where she might have ended up. She didn't come back with him physically, but perhaps her consciousness made the trip, as his had before. He was also looking for her through the Romulan personnel files he had access to. Did she even survive the cataclysm here in this universe.

He was engrossed in his work, but still heard the faint hiss of the door opening and closing. Vaebn looked up and slid his chair sideways to see who had come in. He wasn't expecting anyone, although some of the science staff had been using the lab for personal experiments, such as Petty Officer Valarez who was working on some kind of glowing algae. He'd signed off on the work, but to be honest, Vaebn was rather daft when it came to biology research.

Vaebn called out to the nearly empty room, without bothering to get up, "Can I help you?"

Quinn heard a voice, but could not see a face. He started to scan the lab with his eyes, trying to find Lieutenant tr'Hwersuil. He walked over in the direction he believed he heard the voice coming from. Sure enough it was Vaebn. It was hard to miss a Romulan in a science lab, even though they had similar traits to Vulcans, Quinn could tell the difference. "Hope I am not interrupting?" Quinn asked, with a tone of sincerity.

Vaebn heard the figure approaching, but refused to take his eyes from the screens. He shifted from foot to foot tapping his chin with a single finger, seeming to be muttering to himself. "Of course not, I frequently enjoy random people entering my labs while I am staring into the breadth of temporal mechanics." he said with a gruff undertone. He still had not looked at the person who now stood in the office doorway.

"Sorry to disrupt your research, but I wanted to meet everyone on the senior staff, before we left orbit." Quinn said half apologetic. He was sorry for interrupting, but given the fact he was the first officer, it was to be expected.

"senior staff.... " he muttered half under his breath and he glanced sideways at the man in the door. He saw the uniform and noted the collar pips and turned to face the Commander. He recalled a memo regarding a new XO, but hadn't bothered to read it, and left it stale in his inbox as he continued his research. "My apologies Commander, I was unaware that you would be arriving so soon." Vaebn was now painfully aware of the multiple PADDs strewn about the tables and desk, his open fronted uniform, and a bit more than a shadow of stubble across his face. "Had I realized, I would have made myself, and my office, more presentable." He stepped forward and extended a hand in greeting, "Lt. Vaebn tr'Hwersuil at your service, sir."

"No reason to apologize, I am showing up unannounced. I find it is refreshing, to see my staff working in their natural element." Quinn said with a big grin on his face. "I must say you are very dedicated to your duties. I appreciate that, and so does the Captain." Quinn said, waiting to see how he responded.

"I am sure the Captain thinks that I am sometimes, too dedicated to my duties." Vaebn said with a rather serious tone, "Considering that he keeps inviting me to an increasing amount of social functions." He raised a hand and indicated a chair, "Please," he said as he sat back into his work chair. "Although nowadays, I'm not entirely sure what my natural element is. Most times you can find me in astrometrics, as I tend too feel more comfortable there."

Quinn took a seat, and smiled as he tried to figure out the romulan science officer. "We all have our areas to we prefer to be at. My wife, who is on your staff, she feels comfortable in Stellar Cartography. Before my promotion, my spot was the torpedo room." Quinn with a grin on his face. He liked the torpedo room, because, no one really went into the room. He could go in their, and unwind and get away from everyone, when he needed too.

"Then I have a feeling I will be seeing your wife quite often. A stellar cartographer is quite valuable in my eyes. Especially since my other duties keep me away from the areas I wish I had more time in." Vaebn replied as he absently picked up a PADD and started tapping away at the edge.

Quinn grinned at his comment. He wondered how Ameri was going to like that. She loved having her own little corner. "How long have you been on the Pioneer, and what's goal for this assignment?" Quinn asked, trying to make a little small talk.

He tapped the PADD a few more times as he pondered. "I shipped out a little over a year ago, or at least , thats what I am told, even though it feels much shorter thanks to our last mission. It's my first official commission in Starfleet, and hopefully will not be my last." He thought for a moment longer, "I guess we'll see where the road takes me."

"Will take that road together, I do not want to take up, much more of your time." Said Quinn as he stood up and started to walk towards the door, looking back to see if Vaebn had any final thoughts or anything to say.
