Location: T'San's quarters
Timeline: MD001 2000 hrs

Last Time On Cardassian Coffee Conversation

"We could ask him, we're meeting him later tonight at dinner," Said Jenn.

Jati nodded slowly. "I already have other dinner plans, but I'll do some research and will get back to you in the morning. My mother should have had a chance to look over the data and give me her expert opinion on it by then as well." She smiled. "It helps having clever relatives."

"Alright," Jenn nodded. "See you in the morning then."

And Now The Continuation...

May 28 2394 2000 hrs (relative time)

Dan was in the kitchen looking finishing the appetizers as T'San was setting up the table. She took out a bottle of wine out of one of the kitchen cabinet and an opener to open the bottle.

The door chimed and T'San called. "Enter!" She put the open bottle on the table.

Jenn walked in to the room. She looked around a bit nervous, "Sorry, I didn't know it was here, I was at the crew mess hall first." She smiled. "And the lounge. " She shrugged and then said after she sniffed a little, "That smells wonderful, what are we having?"

"I am not sure as to what he is cooking, but he said it is asian food. Different varieties of dishes." T'San just nodded. "Would you like something to drink?"

"Yea, sure," said Jenn.

Dan walked out of the kitchen with a plate of snacks, "Dig in!"

In a remorseless display of one of the more annoying Cardassian traits, Jati was exactly on time, with only a Vulcan's innate sense of internal timekeeping able to tell whether the sound of the door chime began or ended at the exact second they had agreed Jati should come over.

T'San poured Jenn a glass of wine. "Enter," She called to the door as soon as she heard the chime again. She handed the glass to Jenn. "Thank you for coming, Miss Masters, Have a seat and help yourself to some snacks." She then turned to Jati. "Glen, welcome, thank you for coming, would you like a drink?" She offered.

"Good evening", she greeted, "and yes, please surprise me with something exotic." Now in civilian garb, Jati's top bore the logo of the Cardassian Ministry of Science, with its motto translated into Federation Standard, reading "Science is Progress, Knowledge is Strength".

T'San walked to the replicator to get a drink for Jati and brought it to her. She then pointed to the couch. "Have a seat and some snacks. We will start as soon as the rest is here as well."

The Myles clan entered, with Larim nodding to Jenn and Lax waving. Lax trailed off to find a good seat, leaving Larim free to talk to well, whoever really

That certainly included his best friend. "Larim, how are you holding up?"

"Well, as alternate universes go. Better than I expected. Goat a version of Lax, so that's good. A version of you. So I'm doing alright."

"It's not that horrible an alternative to what you're used to, is it?" Jati asked, direction her question to the lot, instead of anyone in particular.

"Very true." Larim said. "There's a federation at least." he smiled.

"I suppose there's no such thing as a perfect universe", Jati stated.

"Well. We're not drones, so that's something." Larim laughed

"I drink to that," Said Jenn. As she held up her glass. And then she remembered what she wanted to ask. She put her glass down. "Captain, Glen, Commander, I have been curious, as this universe is so different from what I know, Lieutenant Myles knows. I wonder if some of the familiar faces are here as well. Like maybe Senior Chief Petty Officer Calhoun or Captain Tyler?"

At the mentioning of the name Tyler an awkward silence seemed to fall. She looked over to Larim. "Did I say something wrong?"

T'San put her hands behind her back and just looked at Bervag. Dan peaked over but didn't speak as well.

"The only Tyler I've heard of is a terrorist", Jati said. "I don't know how common the name is among humans, though. His name's Tyler Malbrooke, and he heads a group that calls itself the New Maquis." Jati took a sip of her drink to wet her throat before explaining in more detail. "I don't know whether you've had a Maquis of your own where you're from, so let me give you a quick run-down. While my people were governed by a military dictatorship, there were Federation colonists along the border who wanted to resist more than the Federation government was willing to. They were hated enemies of Cardassia then, officially at least. In retrospect, I can understand their stance, terrorists or not. These New Maquis, however, are a very different breed. There is no government oppressing them at present, and all they're after is killing Cardassians in supposed revenge for what other Cardassians did to the first Maquis decades ago. They're lunatics, at best. I've narrowly escaped a knife in the back from one of their sympathisers, and I was still a child by the time the first Maquis was active. They target other, young Cardassians who bear neither guilt nor responsibility, indiscriminate violence, and call it payback." She had talked herself into a huff and made an effort to calm down. "I apologise for my wrath, but this is deeply disconcerting."

Jenn turned over to Larim. "Wow, Tyler Malbrooke, leader of the new Maquis. Not sure if I could say 'didn't see that coming'. I guess with the right circumstances I could see that happening. And to be frank, seeing the life my other self is leading, I am not even surprised."

"He isn't a terrorist where you're from?" Jati asked.

"Ehm...no as a matter of fact," Jenn started, "Our Tyler Malbrooke, or Captain Tyler Malbrooke I should say, is our Captain and he commands our version of the Pioneer. Not only that, we fought the New Maquis, valiantly."

"It would be fascinating to find the point of divergence for our two realities, and determine which factors have caused which events, and in turn personal decision", Jati said. "You couldn't by any chance be persuaded to stay with us long enough for me to make that determination?"

"Well," said Jenn, "I do want to get home at some point. So have we found a way to get home yet? If not, for the time to figure that out, I guess the Lieutenant and I are available." She smiled.

"I'm expecting news tomorrow", Jati said. "These things take time. We're fairly certain that an anomaly that was detected near Empok Nor is related, and we'll have to take more readings once we arrive there."
