Mission: Episode 4 - The Sum of Our Parts

Timeline: MD002 1130 hrs

May 29 2394 1130 hrs (relative time)

Miex couldn't help but smile despite the tiredness in her eyes as the turbolift flew down the ship. She had been busy flying the Pioneer for the last few days. Though at the moment the biggest thought she had was her stomach which was showing it's desire for food.

It was only a quick walk till she was in the mess hall and an even shorter walk till she was at a table with a view of the stars having a large plate of scrambled eggs.

It had been a long day working with the CDF on re deployments throughout the Cardassian sector. But such was the life of a Captain, and Tyler's was no different. He decided some morning coffee was in order after the late night chat with Gul Lemek. He grabbed his coffee and saw that Jomaus Miex was sitting alone. Tyler thought what better way to get to know one of his crew.

"Pardon me Lieutenant is this seat taken?" Tyler said as motioned to the open chair across from her.

"No sir the seats free. " She replied with a polite grin as she took a sip from her drink. The synth ale felt cool and refreshing after her day. " Nothing like some good eggs and a cold drink after a long day on the bridge aye captain."

Tyler took the seat and smiled at his pilot. "I see you haven't taken the command course yet Lieutenant. For when you take that course they tell you that the day has not begun until you have partaken of the greatest suspension known to man." He raised his steaming cup of coffee and took a sip. "I always appreciate downtime like this it gives me a chance to get to know those that are serving under me. As for me, I am just a down-home country boy from Oklahoma."

"Well, i need some downtime. I've been at my post, sleeping or running through the cardassian flight programs. Always good to get a reminder of who we're going up against." the trill replied as she enjoyed her food.

"Your work has been exemplary, do not think that has gone unnoticed. But you should relax and let some of us worry about things from time to time. Spend some time with family. Tell me, how are the girls?" Tyler smiled and then sipped his coffee.

"Last time i heard Charlena is doing her best to make sure my brother and his wife never get a good night sleep." The trill replied with a grin forming on her face. " I've not heard from my half-sister in a rather long time. We're not close."

"Well perhaps this downtime is a good way to get to know her. Invite her aboard, give her the grand tour etc..." Tyler chuckled when he spoke. "We are all family here so it would be nice to get to know everyone."

"Maybe, i doubt she'd accept though. What about you captain do you have any close family?" She asked politely.

"Indeed I do and I am happy to say that they are close by. My wife is my Chief Engineer and I wouldn't have it any other way." Tyler beamed when he spoke, it was a source of pride for him how his bride and joy kept his ship running.

"Must be nice having your family close. She's doing a good job at keeping the ship running."

"As I said bring your family here. Heck we might be able to find space for them to move onto the Pioneer. If there is no room at the very least they can move onto the station. Life is too short to keep those you love as close as possible." Tyler smiled and then sipped again. He hoped that above all he was getting through to her.

"I'll think about it sir. It may take a bit to persuade them to join us, but i'll do my best." the trill replied.

"You do that." Tyler smiled as he recalled that Trills are often times of two minds. "For the record you can leave the sirs on the bridge. Call me Tyler, which leads me to a question. Do you prefer Jomaus or Miex?"

The trill paushed for a moment as she thought it through. " It's hard to say. I'm still getting use to all the memories Miex has."

"That is understandable, if you would like to talk about it I would love to listen." Tyler could not imagine what it was like living with another mind in your head. The indecisiveness alone would be mind numbing.

"Thanks, it very odd. The memories are all still messed up and it can be annoying working out who's memories belong to whom. The doctors said it will pass in time." The trill replied.

Tyler nodded, "Is it like having multiple personalities of sorts. Where you have to sort out who is who constantly. Or is it more like having your own personal reference guide to history?" He was genuinely curious how it worked when a Trill was bonded. He had read the reports from Captain Riker about the short time that he had been joined. However, he was sure the experience was a lot different for a Trill.

"It's hard to explain it's sort of a mixture off..." the trill began as she started thinking back. No that wasn't right Yeemell her previous host had died of old age. So why did she have memories of dying in a shuttle crash? "Wait that did happen she said softly to herself."

"Did what happen?" Now Tyler was concerned, he had not known the Lieutenant to act like that. Something seemed to be going on here. As Captain it was up to him to find out what.

" Somethings wrong. I have two memories that don't make sense. One from my own and one from the symbiote." The trill replied trying to work out what was wrong.

"Well let's talk it out why don't you tell me both memories. Perhaps we can get to the bottom of it. But if you would rather, you could also get evaluated by medical." Tyler was worried about his CONN Officer. Something was definitely wrong but he could not set his finger on it.

"My last host. I remember being back at the hospital as she died. Nothing more than old age. Yet there another one that feel like it's trying to force it's way into my brain. One of her dying painfully in a shuttle crash." The trill replied.

"Perhaps you should get to medical and see if the doc and take a look at it." Tyler replied with a look of concern in his eye. He knew nothing of Trill medical issues. However, from what he read this sounded like something that could become a big problem.

"I think i will captain. It's probably nothing it may just be...." The trill began as she stood up and looked around. The door to the mess hall had moved and was now three meters to the left. "Okay, now that was definitely not there when i entered."

Tyler watched the disoriented officer, with extreme concern. "Lieutenant perhaps it would be best if you get there now. There seems to be something very off with your balance. The door has been in the same place since the ship was built."

"Yeah, i really should. "Replied the trill as she made her way to sickbay. Her head hurting from having to try and sort all of this out.
