T'Rish had a mental checklist of all the items she wanted to complete regarding her new assignment. She was top of her class and fully intended on proving she had deserved that recognition. She had already met with her new commanding officer, had her physical, and a frustrating counseling session. The two remaining items were to meet the executive officer and to meet with the Chief Engineer.

The Vulcan set the padd down that she had been using to read up on the officer she was about to meet. He was a Klingon and she had met only one in her life, it had not gone well. She held no grudges, but wanted to be informed on who she was going to meet.

Stepping out of the turbolift she soon found herself in main engineering. Striding up behind the Klingon in gold she cleared her throat before speaking. "Lieutenant, I felt it logical to introduce myself. I am Ensign T'Rish, Chief of Operations." She didn't extend her hand as most did in greeting, neither species held the same practice.

Thankfully finished with moving in the tools that would have raised most eyebrows, Thalk tucked a spare folding cot into a corner before turning around to face the crewmate he expected to be working closely with. Fair of skin, dark of eye, slightly pointed ears, and a stance that spoke of confidence.

He absently tightened the drawstrings on his leather apron as he addressed her: “A pleasure to make your acquaintance, Ensign." As nonchalantly as he could, he picked up an antique torch head and slipped it into the front pocket of his unorthodox protective garment, silently hoping she didn't notice, didn't recognize it, or didn't care. “I look forward to working with you."

"As, I you." The Vulcan replied. She couldn't help but look over the Klingon in front of her. "I must admit that I didn't take the time to read up on you prior to coming down here. I felt it was more logical to get the introduction out of the way.

"Of course. Do you have any questions, about my background or training? Is there anything I can do to help you acclimate to the ship?"

"No, that won't be necessary. I am able to manage on my own." T'Rish replied. If she was being honest she did want to ask him how he came to be in Starfleet. It wasn't often to find a Klingon in Starfleet, let alone the chief of engineering. "I am curious how you found yourself in Starfleet?" She wondered if his story was anything like her own.

Having fielded this particular question a thousand times, Thalk had answers prepared. “I served in the IKF as a salvage and research specialist. After an unexciting career, I applied to the academy for a change." Truthful, without telling the truth. He'd been spending too much time with humans.

"Interesting." T'Rish said with a tip of her head in the passive almost bored tone that most Vulcans had when speaking. "I will be honest with you Lieutenant, this is my first posting." She paused as she thought over how to word what she said next. "I am adequately qualified for my position, however I may...lack certain experiences for ship operations." She didn't like admitting that she was less than what was needed. "I would greatly appreciate it if would be willing to advise me at times." She figured that with the overlap of their department, he would be a valued source of information.

The Klingon was beginning to relax. She hadn't probed into his past. She didn't ask about family. He hadn't had to think about why he actually left the Fleet. She didn't even care that he was apparently in possession of an ancient tool. She seemed competent, aware of her limits, and interested in learning. All phenomenal traits. “I understand. If there's anything you need, please let me know. If you have any questions at all, about the ship or anything else" he nodded towards the tucked away cot "I'll probably be here."

The Hybrid raised her eyebrow questioningly at the cot in main engineering. May officers were dedicated to their jobs, but this was above and beyond. "Thank you." She replied. "If there is anything that you need from me, or from Operations please don't hesitate to ask."

Turning- briefly- away to place the torch head in an overhead storage unit, Thalk let himself relax. Toril would like this young woman. She was the kind of logical that made him appreciate working with Vulcans. "I will keep that in mind. Thank you so much for introducing yourself."

T'Rish tipped her had out of respect the the man that outranked her. The more emotional part of her wanted to smile, but that was illogical. She didn't know what else to say so she simply turned on her heels and headed for the door. She needed to get to the Science labs in order to fix a broken replicator. She had enjoyed meeting the Klingon Engineer. Just based on instinct and and their conversation she had a feeling that the ships engines were in good hands.
