Larims tactical console began to make a familiar beep. "Sir, I'm getting something on my sensors." he said, working his console

Thank you Vaebn... Tyler thought. "Alright Lieutenant what do you have?" Tyler said while he looked into the screen.

"They indicate a force of several fighters, roughly the size of a Danube class runabout. Specifications match craft favored by the Maquis, sir." he cleared his throat. "Confirming federation warp signatures on the vessels."

"Onscreen... What is their course and speed? Status of their tactical systems?" Tyler was hoping they were not coming in hot. But in his experience they always were.

Jax interjected her two cents. "We could be in trouble if there are to many. This flying brick can't out maneuver those and keep from splitting apart in the nebula."

"Jax prepare for evasive, and just keep this brick from breaking up. We'll do the rest" Tyler said with a smile.

The fact that Jax and Tyler had an instantly gelled on there holo-ride made the stress of the job easier. She moved her hand to try and keep the swarm of fighters from vital areas of the ship. It was luckily a rather quick section of the Badlands. So navigation was a bit easier.

"They seem to be heading straight for us, sir. At a timely clip. Estimate a good half impulse" Larim replied. "Update. a direct course for our ventral section. Recomend raising shields."

Before the Captain could even give the order the first targeting run had started the fighters swooped in formation and started to pound the ship from a pretty far range. best guess was the fighters saw the shields down and didn't want to wait to be in optimal range. Some of the blows hit hard. Luckily once the first shot hit the bridge went red.

Jax did her best to soften any shots they were taking with her flying. She hopped those Tactical boys would start unleashing the might of the ship on these guys.

"Shields holding at 80 percent, Captain! Targeting phasers at nearest formation." Larim said. The ships ventral phasers came to life, unleashing their orange beams at their attackers.

Their speed made targeting a little bit of a chore, with them evading fire. "They're evading my fire. have registered phaser hits to nearest formation. Shields register hit localized to our ventral section. Still holding."

"Acknowledged Lieutenant. Keep returning fire, shoot to wound not kill if possible. Jax maintain evasive however I would like you to follow a fighter group on their return vectors, if that is possible. We need to find out where these fighters are coming from." Tyler was sitting on the edge of his seat. The image around him was something that he had hoped he would never see, at least not on this mission. His bridge darkened, save for the flashing red, his officers moving around tensely. He had to end this quickly but how.

"Firing phasers. Got one! Disabled." he said. The bridge shook as the Pioneer was hit yet again. Still on the ventral side. "Ventral shields down to 65 percent. Transferring power from auxillary to compensate."

"Sir, the last attack squad that was their second run they are breaking off and headed away." Jax said. Her experience as a fighter pilot tipped her off to a return trajectory. "I am plotting a pursuant course."

Tyler wondered why the ventral, that area protected the non vital systems. "Engineering look into ventral systems let me know what they could be after." Tyler punched the comm channel.

The remaining fighters had adjusted to the Pioneer's course change. This delayed their next run but only for a bit as they came bearing down on the much larger ship.

Larim let loose yet another phaser volley, remembering a lesson he learned about leading his targets. Aiming a little ahead of the fighters instead, registering a few hits.

After the last volley of shots Jax noticed an odd thickness to the gas cloud in front of the ship. "Those fighters went through the gas cloud. If they can make it so can we. Brace for a bump!" She said as she decided to punch up the speed to try and ram through the soupy space. Jax winced as they came in contact with it but there was no turbulence. As they made it through the fairly thin gas cloud she could not believe what she saw in front of her.

"Ohhhhhh, SH@#T..." Came Tyler's voice from the center seat. In the center of the viewscreen a Nor class station sat with the fighters taking off and landing at it. "Time to intercept the station? Intel I need everything you can muster on a Nor Class station in the Badlands." Tyler did not know what he stepped into here but he had a suspicion that it was big.

"With the lack of storms in this part we can be there on command." Jax said as she turned to him "I see multiple docks open, but not sure it would be wise to lock in to a possible hostile station."

"Scanning now, Captain." Larim said. It wasn't long before he got results, which filled him with apprehension. "Sir, detecting multiple life signs. All from races that the Federation had ticked off one way or the other. Detecting Orion, Kzinti, a few Breen. Also a respectable reading of Cardassians."

He cleared his throat. "Also I have readings, as of yet inconclusive. But they could be traces of biogenic weaponry."

"Right, Jax find us a nice hiding spot and hold position. It is getting really crowded in my sky. We need to plan. Myles just keep the defenses up and try to shore up that ventral shielding. Engineering this is the bridge I need you to look into those secondary processors." Tyler's orders came fast and furious. Then he paused as he considered the next step. He always knew that as a commanding officer ordering people to die is part in parcel to the job. But he was going to have to send a whole team in. He sighed deeply... "First Lieutenant Cunningham please report to the Ready Room."
