Mission: Episode 12 - Risin' To Risa
Location: The Snake Pit - Deck 9 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD 008 1400 hrs

Warrnt Officer Mercy Ryan, slung her sniper's rifle over her shoulder, grabbed her carryall and headed to the Pioneer's berth.

Arriving there, she looked at the ship. It had been a while since she'd served on an Intrepid Class. USS Brigadoon back in the early '80s. Later she leaned, that in 2385 it was among the ships destroyed in the Rogue Synthetics attack on Utopia Planitia.

Making her way to the airlock, she gave the Security Guard her orders.

He checked them over and gave her directions to Marine Country.

She thanked him and after following his directions, she found herself in Marine Country.

Miranda was walking down a corridor when she noticed the Warrant who clearly had just arrived. "Sergeant Miranda Schultz, ma'am. May I help you?"

"Thanks, Sergeant, I'm Warrant Officer Mercy Ryan, and this is 'Ruby', she said indicating her sniper's rifle. "Right now, I'm looking for my bunk."

"Happy to help," Schultz said cheerfully. "There's a station right over here where you can log in and find everything you need. Once you have your quarters, I'll show you around."

Mercy walked over to the station. The Computer performed the required security checks. Assigned her new Security Level and informed her of the location of her new quarters.

"Okay, my quarters aren't that far away, so I'll stow my gear and then take you up on your generous offer, Sergeant." She said and headed in the direction of her quarters.

Miranda walked with her. "Where did you serve before the Pioneer?" she asked for conversation.

"USS Mountbatten, exploring an area in the Beta Quadrant that was captured by the Dominion during the Dominion War. Even after nearly 20 years, you could still see their mark on things." Mercy replied.

"There are still remnants of the war around here, too," the sergeant said. "It's a sober reminder of why we're out here."

"Indeed." Mercy agreed as they arrived at her quarters. The door opened as she placed her hand over the sensor.

Entering her new quarters, she placed 'Ruby' and her carryall, just inside the door, and rejoined Miranda in the corridor.

Turning to the Sergeant, she said. "Lead the way, Sergeant."

"Yes, ma'am. This way." Miranda gave Mercy a quick tour as they made their way to the bar. She hoped there would be other Marines around for her to meet, but it all depended on who was doing what.

Son was seated at a table, reading a padd when he noticed Sergeant Shultz come in. He was heading over to say hi when he noticed a WO that he didn't recognize. He cleared his thought. "Sarge, ma'am." He said in greeting.

Mercy watched as an Andorian male Marine stood up and approached them. She then waited for Miranda to do the introductions.

"Hi, Son. This is Warrant Officer Mercy Ryan. She's new to The Cure," Miranda said, smiling at the Andorian. Then she turned to Mercy. "Warrant, this is Corporal Son Th'rerheq."

"Hi, Corporal, nice to meet you. Call me Mercy, that goes for you too Sergeant." Mercy said.

"And I'm Miranda," the sergeant replied.

"So, Miranda, Son, what do you do for fun around here?" Mercy asked.

"Cards, drinks, drills," Miranda said, chuckling. "Although the fleeters don't mind us using the holodecks. And there's Empok Nor for leave."

"Plus I normally hit the gym. Get some hand to hand practice. There was this prisoner who I tried to help apprehend before coming aboard. Man I was rusty." The Andorian chuckled.

"That's gracious of them. I used to be a Fleeter, Intel, some of my fellow crewman weren't exactly 'warm' to me." Mercy said. "It was bad enough I was Intel, but when they found out my parents lived an unconventional life. They were thieves and con people, things got worse." She added.

"You'd fit in with the intel here. One is former Maquis, one former New Maquis." Miranda chuckled. "I've worked with them a time or two. They're good, but definitely not what you'd expect." She paused, reconsidering. "Or maybe you would."

Shayla walked into Marine HQ and her eyes burned. She worked overtime with this new Marine integration. Shayla trained with Lieutenant Michael on the helm. The idea was that eventually she would take the helm. Although she enjoyed evac so much more. She sighed heavily and plopped down in a chair kicking her feet up. Her hair was a little disheveled. "How y'all doin?"

"Hard day, Sergeant?" Mercy asked Shayla.

"And why is that? I can't imagine that your day has been any worse than mine. At least you didn't get your butt handed to you by the Fleet." Shayla replied sarcastically.

"What happened today?" Miranda asked the other sergeant. She knew Shayla was working with the Fleeters, but hadn't heard any details.

"Lieutenant Michael has be running ragged on the simulator. It seems that to further the integration I am to take a tour on the Bridge at the helm. Every time I say that I feel my soul die." Shayla said raggedly. She had no interest in flying a starship. She loved being out there in the thick of it, in the trenches with the rest of the team.

Miranda blinked. "Flying the ship? Don't they have enough pilots of their own?" Then she raised an eyebrow. "Does that mean you get payback? Take them through a live fire drill?"

"I don't evy you, Sergeant." Mercy said. "So, that's what this little 'experiment' is about. Making us into pseudo-fleeters?" She asked.

"It's supposed to get us to work together like a happy family," Schultz replied. "I guess someone up the chain thought we needed to prove their worth. Or, more likely, they wanted Tremble in command. He's tough but fair. Maybe he'll whip some of those fleeters into shape?"

"From what I heard the order came from a joint request. General Sobel and Admiral Rice teamed up for this one. That is a whole lot of clout to make sure this does not fail. As toward getting even, well I plan on doing that when I have the helm. I wonder if this thing can do barrel rolls?" Shayla spoke conspiratorially and then laughed heartily.

"Probably." Miranda laughed. "But I don't know if the Bridge has seat belts--if artificial gravity doesn't compensate automatically." Attacks shook things up, but she'd yet to feel anything if he ship made a sharp course correction. or a barrel roll.

"I'm just glad I won't be on the Bridge at the time." Mercy said.

"I will say this though, learning bridge protocol is better than running laps around these decks..." Shayla began with a smirk. "Shipboard Marine units function a lot like sex. A whole lot of build up for sixty seconds of excitement. Eh, hopefully soon I will be able to get my hands on the Hawkeye again."

Miranda nodded, agreeing that bridge duty was better than running laps. At least, that was her assumption. She'd never actually been on the bridge. As for the other...well... "The Hawkeye's pretty great."

Mercy couldn't help but snicker at Shayla's description. "I take it the Hawkeye is the Cure's shuttle?" She asked.

"That she is and she is my baby. Those fleet pilots will have to pry the controls from my cold dead hands before I let them have a go. The Hawkeye has gotten to the mission and back again safely more times than I count. She is Argo Class and more than most people deserved." Shayla spoke of the Hawkeye as if it were a living breathing organism and to the pilot the ship was exactly that.

"You speak about the Hawkeye, the same way I speak about Ruby, my Sniper's rifle." Mercy told the pilot.

"And I speak to my radio," Miranda said, chuckling. "It's a scientific fact that they behave better when you do." Her combadge chirped and she stood. "Looks like I need to get back to work. Welcome aboard, warrant. Sarge, corporal, see you around." With a nod she walked purposefully out of the door.

"Indeed, I better report to the old man." Mercy said. "Great to meet you, I look forward to serving with you."
