Mission: Episode 12 - Risin' To Risa
Location: USS Pioneer - Deck 5 - Sickbay
Timeline: MD001 1300 hrs

They were approaching Empok Nor when Jayna remembered that she was supposed to get a physical. With he sister leaving and reports to file, she'd completely forgotten. And now they were about to start shore leave and she didn't want this to keep her on the ship. So she went to sickbay to see who was available.

Hermia was in her office. In front of her was a medical journal, a copy of 'Combat Phasers', and a copy of 'Blades of the Beta Quadrant'.

Her eyes switched between each of the PADDs.

An alarm sounded to tell her a new patient had arrived. Hermia stood and went to meet her new 'customer'.

"Hi," Jayna said as the doctor approached. "I got busy and forgot to report in for my physical. I hope you have time for it." She wasn't generally one to put off her annual physicals, or ones like this that were ordered by the Captain, but recent events had been a bit distracting.

"Sure, I've put myself on duty, so my staff can enjoy themselves on the station." Hermia said.

"Thank you. I've got an opportunity to do a zero-g jump and some snorkeling. Both will be a first for me." She generally didn't take much of a shore leave, preferring to give the time to others, but for once, she was looking forward to it.

"Sounds like fun." Hermia said. "Before we start, do you have any medical issues, that are not in your medical record?"

"No. Nor have I done anything that might lead to injury," she said. Then she smiled. "At least, not yet."

"Okay, find a biobed while I download your medical records." Hermia said.

Jayna sat on the nearest biobed and watched Hermia.

Hermia stepped out of her office and made her way over to Jayna, PADD in hand.

"Before I ask you to lie down for the scan, do you have any weapons concealed about your person?"

Jayna had to think for a moment. "No. Not today, anyway. Thanks for asking." She often kept a belt knife on her, but there hadn't been a need recently.

"Okay, I only ask because they can mess with the scans and concealed weapons are a mainstay of intel operatives." Hermia said.

"Yes, we generally do," the intel officer chuckled. "Often more than one." She settled herself on the biobed.

Hermia activated the scan. "I carry a k-bar myself, a leftover from my time attached to the Marines."

"A good weapon. I have a pair of balanced throwing knives." Jayna smiled. "I don't know how balanced a k-bar is."

"Its not that good for throwing, but its good in close quarters." Hermia said as she remembered how well it cut into the flesh of the Cardassian pirate that attacked her and her staff.

"You never know when you need a good knife," Jayna agreed. "For many things. I often find it a useful tool." She often reached for her knife before other tools for cutting things.

"Exactly." Hermia agreed. "I have got a lot of use out of mine."

The intel officer grinned. "It's good to know."

The machine beeped to signal that the scan was completed.

Hermia checked the results.

"Jayna you seem to be in good health. The only thing that concerns me is that you're a little low in magnesium and sodium. Your Vulcanoid metabolism requires very little sodium, but since you're also Bajorian you require more. The sodium deficiency can be remedied by adding more table salt to your food. And I'll give you supplements for the magnesium." She explained.

She didn't use a lot of salt, generally, but Jayna made a mental note to do so. "Thank you. I will see what has a higher salt content. Is there anything else I need to be aware of?"

"Just keep hydrated when you workout, sweating causes a loss of sodium." Hermia reminded her as she handed her a PADD with a prescription for magnesium supplements.

Jayna nodded, folded the prescription, and put it in a pocket. She'd replicate the pills when she got back to her quarters. "Thank you. I appreciate your time."

"Not a problem, Jayna. Enjoy your shoreleave." Hermia replied.

Jayna paused. "You know, I actually might." She smiled and went off to do some research. It had been a while since she enjoyed a shore leave.
