Mission: Episode 11 - Family Matters
Location: Malbrooke Quarters - Deck 3 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD001 0830 hrs

The next step in this plan that could get everyone in the brig was to gather the key players. The safest place that Tyler could think of was his own quarters. However, he had to get Kat to step out so that she would not be guilty by association. He would hate for her to get tied up in the aftermath of this.

He sat on the couch with a sigh. "Babe would you come in here for a second." Tyler called out to Kat.

She walked in, pausing to look at Tyler. "What's up?" she asked. It was clear to her there was something on his mind and she probably wasn't going to like it.

"There is only one way... Well actually there are two ways to say this. First as your husband. I have to leave on a classified mission. All I can tell you is that I am going to help one of our own. Also I should tell you that I am doing this against orders. Which leads me to the other way to say this, as your Captain. I need you to step out of these quarters for one hour." The look on his face was conflicted. It showed that he would like her to do it of her own volition and he did not want to make it an order.

"As I don't really have a position on this ship, are you my captain?" she asked. "As far as I know, I'm working for Quinn." She paused. "You know I'd go with you, right? Even into Romulan space." She didn't know what the mission was, but by the way he was talking, she had an idea it had something to do with the Romulans.

Tyler smiled she was insanely perceptive and he loved it. He smirked "Technically you are under my command and your service record shows that you are a special advisor to the Pioneer. I have assigned you to Quinn..." He chuckled to let her know that he was being sarcastic. "Yes my love of course I know that you would come with us. However, I cannot risk us both destroying our careers. So it is best that the less you know the better this way when there is an inquiry..." His voice trailed off as he felt the urge to simply kiss her. "...Now please." The tone of his voice told her that he was asking and not telling.

She looked at him intently. "It's not your career I worry about." She hugged him for a long moment. "Come back or I swear I'll track you down, wherever you are." It was an empty threat and they both knew it, but she did want him back, safe and sound. It had taken her long enough to be on the same ship with Ty, she wasn't going to lose him now.

At the same time, she had to admit that, in her current condition, he would worry about her and that would be a distraction. She got up and walked out of their quarters. She didn't fault him for what he was doing, but she hated staying behind to wait.

Tyler watched her go for what he hoped was not the last time. Truth was he could us a good engineer on this mission, however, he refused to allow her to risk it all for him. When the doors swished closed behind her he dropped his head into his hands for a moment and took a deep breath. This was the point of no return.

With that hard conversation over Tyler tapped his comm badge. "Will Ensign Raine, Captain Tremble, Warrant MIra, and Commander tr'Hwersuil please report to my quarters. Malbrooke out." Tyler twiddled his thumbs as he waited for them to arrive. He was not sure how he was going to ask them to disobey orders.

Neil was surprised when his approach automatically activated the door to the Captain's quarters and he briefly viewed the surroundings as he walked in. Dressed in the EAS's body glove, Neil removed his beret and said, "Reporting as ordered, sir?"

He made it a question as well as a statement, though Neil had a pretty good idea what this meeting would be about.

Jayna was surprised when she got the summons from the Captain. Life on the Pioneer, for her anyway, had been pretty dull of late. She acknowledged the message and headed for his quarters.

The door opened as she approached and she hesitated a moment before walking in. "Hello, sirs," she said politely.

Tyler smiled a little awkwardly as he set a tray of coffee and tea on the table in the sitting area. "Please have a seat and help yourself. I called you here to discuss something off the record as it were. However, It is best to wait for the others to arrive."

She glanced at Neil, then back to the captain and nodded. Whatever it was, she was in. She made herself a cup of tea and took a seat.

Vaebn keyed the door when he arrived and waited for the doors to open before stepping in. He glanced around the room and made eye contact with the others; "Captain. Reporting as ordered sir."

Neil looked around as he found a seat and said to Jayna, "This is going to be pretty informal, I think. Given the setting is decidedly off-duty, just call me Neil." He gestured toward the double bars on his beret flash, which was tucked under an epaulette. "I promise, these tracks won't be offended."

Jayna grinned. "I'll try not to let it go to my head." She sat down near Tremble. "Unfortunately, I tend to slip into casual a bit too often."

Eleanor was curled up reading a book when the call came through, gently placing a bookmark in the page before gently placing it down, she stretched. Why did summons always come when people were off duty. Instinctively reached for her communicator which was laid on the table next to the sofa, before pinning it back onto her uniform, 'Alas a diplomats duty is never done' she thought to herself before she headed out.

It took Eleanor slightly longer than expected, she hadn't been to the Captain's quarters before, and she was still getting to know the ship, following the computer's directions, the doors to his quarters opened as she approached, gracefully stringing in she looked around, everyone else seemed to be assembled, "Sorry I'm late, I got a little lost." she said blushing before she nodded to the others.

Now that Vaebn had arrived Tyler knew that they could get down to business as it were. "Ladies and gents I have invited you all here because we have family to go rescue..." He felt that now was not the time mince words so getting right down to the point would be best. "We are going to take the Oakley into Romulan space and retrieve Vaebn's sister who has been kidnapped. First and foremost I have to tell you all that this mission is purely optional. We will be acting against orders from the fleet."

"Or," Neil deadpanned. "Put another way. We're all going on vacation together. Don't forget your swim-suits, weapons of choice, and recreational substances."

"Great. I haven't been on a vaction in years." Jayna raised an eyebrow. "How covert are we going?"

"Considering we will be entering sovereign Romulan territory without clearance and that said territory is under internal dispute. I would say pretty deep under the radar." Tyler responded with a smirk.

"Not only will we be crossing in Romulan territory, we will be passing through areas that are decidedly covered by the Tal Shiar. They control most of the Romulan military and government after Shinzon's coup attempt and the loss of Romulus," Vaebn said. "That being said, none of you need to do this, although, I would be grateful for as many vacation mates as I can get."

Jayna grinned. "Sounds like a party to me. I'm in."

"You mentioned me volunteering some of the Cure to go with as baggage handlers, sir," Neil asked Tyler. "Any specific specialities you may think we'll need?"

"If I may," she said, feeling everyone's gaze suddenly fall upon her, she didn't want to sound like a party pooper, but it was her duty and responsibility to at least voice an air of caution. "As your Diplomatic Advisor, I have to highlight the ramifications of such an infarction into Romulan space, if we were caught, they would never believe the mission was unsanctioned, it would lead to all-out open war." She paused, feeling slightly anxious, after all, she was new here, the crew didn't really know her yet. "However, as a member of the crew, I'd like to say, I'm looking forward to a vacation." her eyes narrowed and a tone of seriousness came over her face, "We never leave family behind."

"No, we don't," Jayna said. "We could always have letters of resignation ready in case we get caught so Starfleet doesn't get accused of sanctioning this. When we get back safely, we could have a figurative resignation burning ceremony."

Tyler's heart swelled he was amazed at how his crew can pull together. He decided to first address Neil. With everything going the pretense of ranks was dropped after all this could be the end of all of their careers. "Neil, I am thinking anyone with covert experience and someone experienced with coding messages. I want to be able to communicate with Quinn and the Pioneer if we can."

"Aye aye, Captain," Neil remarked. "That'll be Sergeant Schultz and Corporal Moreau. I'll let them know they volunteered after this. And I'll liberate some toys from the RDF."

Tyler turned to Eleanor, he could sense in a way how aprehensive she was because she was so fresh to the crew. "Eleanor, first off never feel apprehensive about speaking your mind. Especially when you are correct. That is why you are here. Your job is going to be to cool any heads that may get out of control along the way."

Neil folded his arms as he felt more than one glance flicker toward him and a grin played over his face as he said, "I've already cut the explosives load-out I'd been planning to bring with in half. There's always a boom on these types of Ops. I just like to be prepared."

Jayna grinned at Neil. "Who says you're the only one? I may not have anything that'll blow up, but I'll definitely have some weapons, and some poisons if I can get them." She turned to the captain. "Just as a precaution. Poison is less noticeable than an explosive."

"Easier to make an explosion look like an accident and requires more first responder care," the marine disagreed. "But, it depends on the results we're looking to get, I suppose."

Jayna nodded. "If you want it to look like an accident and get attention, yes. If you want to make it look like food poisoning or a heart attack, poison will do the trick. As you said, it depends on what you're looking to get. I would rather have multiple options as we don't know what we'll find when we get there."

Tyler beamed at his crew it was their eagerness that got him. Their willingness to go into harms way for Vaebn. He hoped that Jayna and Niel's plans would never have to be used. "Right so we will depart tomorrow. We take the Oakley, a nice journey on the Captain's yacht."

Jayde nodded. "Is there anything in particular you want us to bring?"

"You should be ready to be a Romulan if the need arises. We may have to put boots on the ground for this. As such a trained field agent who could blend in is what I am going to need." Tyler replied curtly.

Jayna nodded. "I can do that. I speak Romulan, so that wil help." It wouldn't be too much of a change as she already looked Vulcan.

"Our first task is going to be to follow the trail back to this Loval who sent the message. It is only then will we be able to find out where my sister is. Tis is not going to be an easy task. The many different factions that my people have splintered off to will be out there an each of them will most likely try to stop us. Stealth will be of the essence." Vaebn chimed in.

Neil rubbed the back of his neck and said, "Right. So: explosives, personal weapons and a Marine B&E kit for when we need to commandeer transport along..."

Jayden had been working out and not heard the message to report to the captain's quarters until he had finished. He paled when he realized he was going to be very late. Of all times to not catch a message, it had to be from Captain Malbrooke. He dressed quickly and ran down the corridor, taking a breath as he rang the buzzer at Malbrooke's quarters. When the door slid open and the captain stood there, Jayden spoke immediately.

"I apologize for being late," Jayden said quickly. "I came as soon as I got your message, Sir."

Tyler smiled. "No trouble at all Jayden, welcome and pull up a chair. You now complete our little vacation group. After all we will most likely need an engineer..." When he said engineer Tyler shot his wife a knowing look, he knew she wanted to go but he would not allow it. In this matter he would win out, but Tyler knew that when he came back he would have an ear full. "...We are all taking a little jaunt into Romulan space." Tyler began by way of explanation to the new comer. He briefly elaborated and brought Jayden up to speed.

“You can count on me sir,” Jayden replied. He then listened as the other spoke, wanting to be prepared for this mission. It meant a lot that the captain trusted him and chose him.

"We'll also need a way to reach each other that won't get taken or draw attention," Jayna added.

"Comm's and sensor spoofs I've taken care of courtesy of the RECON marines. We'll have bio-electrical patches that will do both. Once we're aboard the Oakley, I'll brief everyone," Neil reported, leaning back into the couch.

Jayna nodded. The Marines were well-equipped for those tasks.
