Richard sighed and adjusted his new COM badge, one that had been altered to neutralize the culprits that had caused the false Pon farr T'Rish was experience.

He glanced around the empty sickbay and began to issue us command, "computer please activate the EMH."

As he spoke the words Richard shook his head and let a faint smile cross his face, "going back to bad habits," he muttered.

A brief shimmer of photons precluded the manifestation of the Pioneer's EMH. The visage of Leonard H McCoy stood before Richard with a broad smile. His American southern drawl was evident as he spoke. "Now, what seems to be the problem?"

EMH I will shortly have a patient here, a Vulcan Hybrid, Ensign T'Rish. She is experiencing a peculiar false Pon farr and I'm afraid I am the one to blame for her condition. He drew in a breath and added, "as strange as it might sound I'm afraid I might be the one to blame."

"First Doctor Ballston is it? May I call you Richard? I prefer Bones, call me Bones. Secondly, it is my experience that those green blooded monsters can't be caused to do anything. What makes you say that you caused the condition?" the EMH replied with a broad smile.

Richard smiled and visibly relaxed, "Bones you certainly may call me Richard." He tilted his head towards the diagnostic medical wall display next to one of the bio beds, "I know you are familiar with pheromones but how familiar are you with Azzian pheromones? Bones if my theory is correct which from my experiments are concerned it seems only Vulcan hybrids and perhaps only Vulcan Betazed genetic combination is reacts adversely to them."

On the screen was a list of data, graphs and diagrams to illustrate his research. The Azzian physician turned his attention to the display for a moment and then back to Bones, "it's my pheromones I feel that are causing her unusual symptoms."

"Nah hold on a moment... You say you are an Azzian... I have now idea what that is. No offense... I suggest you update my medical database with your latest physical." The EMH motioned to the console by the door to Sick Bay. This console allowed a user unfettered access to the EMH program and subroutines.

Richard grinned broadly as he moved towards the colsole, "forgive me Bones I was under the impression you had access to all medical records."

He looked or a moment at the bottom of the display and pressed a virtual button. The screen changed to allow Braille dots to appeared under the words and the physician smiled. He began to touch the screen finding the appropriate settings so the EMH would have access not only to his medical records but to all the information made available by the Azzian Board of Health.

"Perhaps I should mention first thing you should know about me that I can't see characters in a way that makes them legible but I can use Braille."

"Alright, I think with this new data if I could examine the Vulcan I may be able to help. However, I am still at a loss as to how your pheromones could have caused this. Vulcan anatomy is resilient even to pheromones. Orion women have no effect on them." The EMH spoke succinctly, all humor dropped for the moment.

As if T'Rish was summoned on cue, the Vulcan hybrid in question arrived via the hissing doors at the entrance to Sickbay. She saw Richard and a puzzled look crossed her typically emotionaless face at the emotions he elicited from her. She came to a stop short of Richard and the EMH. Looking at each man unphased she finally spoke. "How can I help?"

Richard grinned when he heard the new voice though his eyes never left hologram, "perhaps an examination might answer that question."

He turned his attention then to the woman and offered her a warm smile, "T'Rish, thank you for coming and I hope you're symptoms have subsided." He pivoted a little towards the hologram and continued, "This is the EMH, he prefers to be called Bones. I've asked him to assist in the evaluation." Even though his words were a bit formal it was easy to tell he was enjoying her being there.

T'Rish couldn't help the smile that pulled up the corner of her lips when she saw, and felt, the way Richard responded to her. The smile was a bit disconcerting because while she was feeling more in control than she had in days prior, she still didn't feel like herself. "I am still not myself, Doctor." She replied to this first inquiry before turning her head to the hologram. "You prefer, Bones over Dr. McCoy. I will keep that in mind."

"I have a long history with one of your race Ensign and he preferred Dr McCoy as well. Let us see if times have changed. Here please have a seat and I can begin the examination. Dr Ballston I am going to need you to have a seat on the other bio bed as I am going to have to scan you as well. You see now that the Ensign is here I can see first hand the chemical reactions." The southern drawl of the EMH spoke up and he motioned to the appropriate beds.

The Azzian nodded as he listened to the woman, his pales eyes giving away his pleasure is seeing her again. Dutifully Richard moved over towards the other biobed and sat there as requested for examination, "help yourself Doctor McCoy." he grinned as he watched his holographic colleague.

The EMH activated the scanners on both biobeds. "Now, Ensign what seems to be the problem?" He said to T'Rish with a smile. "I know it is personal, but is this your first, Pon Far that is?" he added.

"It would be, yes." T'Rish replied as she remained reclined on the biobed "I seem to be experiencing less emotional control than what is normal for me." Her tone got softer as she spoke. She hated the idea that she was going though Pon Farr and she hated the idea that this was all caused by Richard.

The Azzain looked over at her and nodded, "not so keen on the idea myself."

He glanced at the EMH and drew in a breath, "her rather unusual symptoms is what tipped me off that we were dealing with something other than a normal Pon farr occurrence."

"These readings are quite irregular even for pon faar. However, let me have a look at the good doctor. I think there is something here and it might be an easy fix. Just relax for the moment Ensign." Bones turned to the other bio bed and began to read the scans.

"They are," Richard admitted but that is the closest matched to known conditions." He watched as the hologram did his work just waiting for him to complete his scans then looked over at T'Rish offering a smile.

T'Rish half returned the smile. At this point she just wanted all of this to be over. Either she was going though Pon Farr and needed to find a mate, or something about Richard was reeking havoc with her physiology. She just hopped that if it were the latter there was a way to fix it. The mind of the vulcan raced as the emotions she typically suppressed threatened to over take her.

Bones smiled after about five minutes of reading the scans as he cross referenced them with the entire medical database that he had at his disposal. "Eureka!" He stepped away from both biobeds so his patients could see him. "It seems that our issue is two fold. First Ensign, it seems that the interaction of chemicals is what is causing the Pon Faar. You may be relieved to know that this is a false Pon Faar, so there is no need to find a mate or fight to the death. That is unless you want to." Bones laughed. "You may be thinking well how do we end the symptoms then. Easy as a mint julep on a warm summer's day. First I would recommend a cortical monitor to be worn. This will monitor your brain functions and assist in alerting medical should they get any worse. Secondly, because this is a false Pon Faar a serious of meditation techniques or even a mind meld should end the symptoms and the Pon Faar for good."

Bones turned to face Dr Ballston. "Now as for you doctor. My diagnosis is a little more in depth. First I recommend daily doses of Rexinoid RF dosed through hypospray. As you are no doubt aware this drug will not suppress but temporarily mask your pheromone output. This will allow the Ensign's chemical imbalance to rectify itself. This is a similar treatment that is issued to Orion women when they join Starfleet. Now the bigger issue here is actually mental not chemical." Bones punched up the scans so all can see them on the screens. "You see here that it is your uncontrolled telepathy, along with the Ensign's Betazoid empathy that is causing the issue. While you take the medication I recommend that you Doctor take some lessons in how to control your telepathy. Once you have done that this issue should be done for good. Well that is just my opinion, and of course you don't have to take my word for it." Bones stood there and smiled as he looked at his two patients.

Richard nodded as he contemplated the holograms suggestions, "Rexinoid RF and telepathic training." He allowed his smile to return as he drew in a breath, "I think that diagnoses doctor will work."

He drew in another breath and looked over at the Vulcan hybrid, "I'll have to find someone willing to train me but the medication can be done right away."

The EMH smiled broadly rather proud of himself for the diagnosis. "Well if the crew manifest is correct the Pioneer has among her crew compliment a Betazoid security chief and a Vulcan sniper. I believe either of them may be of assistance." Bones turned toward T'Rish "I will fit you for your cortical inhibitor now." He placed the device on the right side of her head, just below her ear.

"That is true," Richard said with a nod, "I just hope I'm trainable." He chuckled lightly as he sat up, "I try the security chief first."

T'Rish turned without hesitation and sat easily while the hologram attached the cortical inhibitor. This was not the first time she had worn this type of device. It would take a few days for her to adjust to the dampening affect it would place on her empathic abilities. Turn back to the two men. "Thank you for your assistance doctor. I have faith this will remedy the situation." She gave Richard an understanding smile or as much of a smile as a Vulcan hybrid could give. She could feel the guilt that was coming off of him due to her having to wear the inhibitor, but it was for the best.

"I will check in on you tomorrow," Richard promised the Vulcan hybrid, "with the new device there should be a noticeable improvement. He chuckled to himself, "and i will set up an appontment to see Lieutenant Myles."

Bones simply stood there and awaited further orders from the CMO. He did find the interaction between the Doctor and the Ensign to be rather an interesting one.

"Thank you um," Richard began looking at the EMH and furrowed his brow, "sorry bad habit being overly polite to computers." He took in a deep breath and began again, "computer end EMH program."

Bones smiled, winked and spoke "Nah, you don't hesitate to call agin. Ya here." At the end of his statement the photonic energy that made him up fizzled into nothingness.
