Mission: Episode 10 - New Home, Same Pioneers
Location: XO Ready Room
Timeline: MD007 0830 hrs

Kalina walked over to the office of the first officer. She really did not know a thing about the first officer. She was curious of what type of man he was, and if they would get a long. Kalina still remembered the nightmare of trying to get along with Fettab 13 when he was the first officer of the USS Ottawa, back in her youthful days. He was not a fan of kids.

Kalina walked over to the intercom and tapped on the button. She straighten her uniform as she waited for the come in order. She smiled as she stood out side of the room.

The doors opened and out walked a man. Quinn could see that Kalina was waiting outside of his room, and was the one that pressed on the intercom. He thought to himself, on time is a good thing. He was impressed with both officers so far. "Come on on Ensign." Quinn replied.

Kalina walked over to his desk, and snapped to the position of attention. She was very eager to call out. "Ensign Kalina Solwick, reporting for duty sir."

"Have a seat Ensign." Quinn called out to himself. Thinking this went better than his first meeting. He could tell though that Zaire would be a good officer, he had a good feeling about him. He hoped Kalina gave him the same vibe.

"Thank you sir, its an honor to be on the Pioneer sir." Kalina said, with a big grin on her face. She was very excited to be on the ship. She hoped Quinn would notice it.

Quinn could tell that Kalina was green, and excited to be on her first assignment. He just smiled as he responded. "Are you ready to pilot the Pioneer?" Quinn asked.

"Absolutely sir." Kalina said, with a big grin on her face. She could not wait to take control of the helm. Sadly she knew during her shift, the ship would be primarily on auto pilot. But that was okay. She would have other chances to fly. The small crafts like shuttles also needed pilots.

"Glad to hear it, report to duty tonight around 0000 hours. I want you meet delta crew." Quinn said to Kalina. "Try to get some sleep before your shift." He suggested to her. He could tell that she was stoked and filled with energy.

"Yes sir." Kalina said, knowing that they were not departing tonight. She had a feeling, she was only going to the bridge, to meet the staff. She knew she would be working a 12 hour shift, till they got a third helmsman. Kalina knew her regular shift would start at 1800 - 0600 shift.

"Tomorrow night, you will start your normal shift from 1800 hours to 0600 hours. I want to give you a chance to settle in before throwing you to the wolves." Quinn suggested. He had an operations officer covering the shift from 1800 to 2400 hours.

"I appreciate that sir." Kalina said, with a big grin on her face. she wondered still what her department head was like. She hoped that Quinn would tell her to report to him next.

"I will notify Lieutenant Michael, to schedule a meeting with you. And I will advise him that I am starting you tomorrow morning at 0000 hours." Quinn pointed out to her.

"Thanks sir." Kalina said, thinking to herself that the meeting was almost over.

Quinn grinned nervously, as he was not sure how to bring up the next topic of conversation. "Are you familiar with Ambassador Krisna Solwick." Quinn asked, knowing that she should probably know her Aunt.

"My Aunt, yes I know her. What about her sir, is she okay?" Kalina asked, wondering why he was bringing up her aunt.

"Yes she is fine." Quinn started to say, thinking to himself that he really needed to give Tyler a piece of his mind, for passing this off to him.

Technically they were junior officers, and junior officers fell to him to manage. But never in his wildest dreams, did he think he would be telling two junior officers, that they are getting married. Yet here he was, doing just that.

"Have you had a chance to stop by the promenade on the station, I heard they have a pretty good food, could be a good idea for lunch." Quinn suggested to her, he decided in his mind, that he was going to suggest that Zaire have lunch on the station too.

"Good idea sir, I was curious about the promenade area, my transport bunk mates said the same thing." Kalina said with a big grin on her face.

"I hate to cut this meeting short, but I have a few more meetings to complete. I am taking a half day today." Quinn suggested to Kalina.

"Thank you for meeting with me, and I will reach out to Lieutenant Michael, and meet him. Thank you for meeting with me sir." Kalina said, with a big grin on her face.

"Not a problem, if you need anything my door is always open. Until then, your dismissed." Quinn said, as he stood up, and walked with her to the door. Feeling guilty for not telling her about Zaire. But he was following the Ambassadors orders.

"Thank you sir." Kalina said as the scene fades away.

Quinn watched her leave his ready room, deep down he wondered how she was going to respond to the news about her upcoming wedding. He hoped for the best. He knew Betazed’s did not frown as badly as humans did with pre arranged marriages. But deep down, he was allowing his own cultural belief’s to influence how he looked at scenario. The scene starts to fade way, with Kalina leaving his office.
