Mission: Episode 8 - The Silence
Location: Sickbay - Deck 5 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD001 1300 hrs

Hermia, PADD in hand, led the Sickbay staff in preparations for what they might encounter during their next mission.

The PADD contained a list of tasks to be completed.

Medical orderlies were securing equipment, while the pharmacist, Petty Officer Seran, checked with the quarter master about medication stocks.

Hermia picked up a tri-corder only to find its power pack was dead. She put it aside picked up another, it too was dead.

"Crewman Reese, I want you and Crewman Zarl to check these tri-corders and charge any that require it." She said.

"Yes, ma'am." Reese said and got to work.

"Ensign Goldberg, are the crew's medical records up to data?" She asked the medical officer.

"Yes ma'am. Although we are still trying to get a copy of the civilian medical records for Dr Jacobs. They should be here before we leave. There are still a number of crew members recuperating from the battle." Goldberg replied from an auxiliary station. "Also crewman Thela in engineering is pregnant..." His voice trailed off as his eyebrow raised in the Vulcan manner. "She is Caitian ma'am."

"Thank you, Ensign. Check with Petty Officer Seran and make sure we have enough anti-nausea meds, to make sure Crewman Thela's pregnancy is as comfortable as possible. That's what got me through mine. Also make sure the nursery is ready, should she birth a maximum litter, and remind me to meet with her when I have the time." Hermia said.

"Will do Lieutenant. But that is my fear if we are on mission and the Crewman gives birth, we may not have the capabilities to care for the litter. I mean we are just getting restocked and Empok Nor is having a hard time giving us what we need. They say it is because they are preparing for war." Goldberg replied he was a little relieved that decisions like these were handled above his head.

Having had more experience with Marines, than most, Hermia understood the mind set, but in her current position, her loyalty was to her ship. "In that case, we may need to leave Crewman Thela on Empok Nor, but I'll discuss that with the Boss and the XO. As for our supplies, I'll see if I can work my magic with Empok Nor's Quarter Master, I have a 13 year old Glendalough looking for a home."

Goldberg smirked "Yes ma'am that is after all the currency of the fleet. I am not sure what to do about this request. It is coming from acting First Sergeant Flarn of The Cure. He says that we need to provide them with their ground pills." He handed her a PADD containing the request from the Marine.

"Its Marine speak for anti nausea pills, they use them for for EVA missions, in particular in conjunction with their MARVEL EAS suits, a type of tactical robotics enhanced suit. No one wants to throw up in their helmet, especially in combat." She explained.

"Understood and how many per Marine should we send. I can summon their Corpsman to come retrieve them that is if you authorize it." Howard replied.

"Five each, should be plenty, if First Sergeant Flarn disagrees, have him speak to me. I authorize it, I believe the Senior Corpsman's name is Corporal Thompson." Hermia replied.

Goldberg did as she bade and then stood up and pulled the Lieutenant aside for a moment. "Ma'am I hope it is okay to speak freely. Are we sure that following a request from the CDF is the best course of action. I know I should not question the Captain. But we are getting pounded on all sides..." He let his voice trail off as he was rather ashamed of questioning his superiors.

Hermia thought for a moment. "Ensign, there is a lot of things involved in this situation. I may not agree with everything Starfleet Command and Captain Malbrooke are doing and I don't completely trust the CDF. But I do trust that Captain Malbrooke is doing what he thinks is best. Also the Cardassian Union owns Empok Nor, so we have to remain on their good side, so we can keep control of this strategically important asset." Hermia said. "Now that's enough politics and diplomacy, let's get on with our job, shall we?" She asked though it was clear that it wasn't a question.

"Yes ma'am..." Howard turned away to set about checking on the patients. A moment later he stopped and looked over his shoulder. "...And Lieutenant thanks."

"You're welcome, Ensign." Hermia said and returned to her work.
