Mission: Episode 8 - The Silence
Location: Operations Chief Office - Deck 6 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD001 0800 hrs

Ameri’s first day as Operations Chief and she wanted to start things out right. She decided the first thing would be a meeting with Lieutenant Michael so she sent a message requesting he come to her office.

Paul got the message that the new Operations Chief wanted to speak with him. So, he walked to her office, and pressed the chime and waited.

“Come in,” Ameri called out. She looked up as Paul Michael came in and smiled. “Good Morning! Please grab something to drink and have a seat. I wanted to meet with you first thing today so that we could get to know one another.”

"Thank you, lieutenant." Paul went over to the replicator and got a glass of iced water, then took a seat on the other side of her desk.

“I want to start with assuring you that my actions with Dana Wakefield were not normal for me. I want us to be a team and I look forward to input from you.”

"Thank you for saying that, lieutenant. You didn't have to, but I still appreciate that you did. What happened between Lieutenant Wakefield and I was....regrettable. I had thought we had established a good working relationship. And I look forward to working with you, ma'am."

“I am hoping all of us will be able to put that behind us,” Ameri smiled as she paused then continued. “One more thing I would like to make clear, in case you have any questions. Your personal life is just that. I will never get involved in what you do on your own time unless it is something against regulations. I respect you and I want to start out with trust between us. Who you date is your business and I am not one to listen to gossip or act upon it.” She wanted him to feel comfortable and have no worries about her criticizing him.

"I appreciate that, lieutenant, but on any ship, people will gossip, whether it's true or not. Sometimes, people just click and they start a relationship. Now I know there are no specific regulations against shipboard romance, but that's usually up to the captain if they want to permit it or not." He was starting to feel better about staying on the ship.

“If you find love and you need support I am here,” Ameri replied quickly. “Commander O’Flannagain And I am proof that people in a relationship can coexist in the workplace.”

Paul nodded. "Thank you, lieutenant. I have discovered that having someone in your life on board such a small ship, can cause huge problems, as shown in my previous relationship." He didn't want to say anything about his relationship with Lyna….maybe doing so might jinx it.

“It didn’t have to be,” Ameri replied. “Don’t let that ruin any chances for you.” She took a deep breath. “Do you have any questions or concerns for me?”

"Not at this time, lieutenant, but if I think of something, I'll let you know." Paul replied.

Ameri smiled. “That is all I wanted. You are free to go and if at any time you need to speak with me I am available.”

Paul nodded. "Thank you, lieutenant, I will remember that." He stood up and headed towards the door.

Ameri watched him leave and smiled to herself. Things would work out well. She reflected on Dana for a moment and was relieved that she would be placed on a ship somewhere. Hopefully with a clean slate and would do well.
