Mission: Episode 7 - Home Again
Location: USS Pioneer-Deck 2-Jen's quarters
Timeline: MD002 1400 hrs

Ameri felt like she has been remiss in keeping up on the crew, at times she was so focused on her family that the world ceases to exist. She had heard that Jennifer Masters had been injured in the last mission and she wanted to see how she was doing and if there was anything she needed.

She headed on her way to find her, her mind turning to all that had happened the past few days. She was getting back into the job with a bang it seemed.

Jen just came back to her quarters. She had her bandages replaced and she was about an hour without them. She liked it that her eyes could breath for a moment. Back in her room she was sitting at her table and was listening to the computer reading her last night's report. The nurse had brought her food and drinks at the table and left her again. She would be back in a few hours to check on her and prepare her dinner and help her in her pj's.

She sighed. Not being able to see anything was getting old pretty fast. "Computer stop reading reports." The computer tjirped and stopped the action. She moved her hand over the glass on the table. And took a sip from it. She would probably had to find a way to get a refill. She couldn't have a pitcher on the table.

Ameri stopped outside Jen’s quarters. She wasn’t certain how the intel chief would feel having company but Ameri wanted her to know she cared and was here if she needed anything. Ameri hater being sick but she appreciated knowing Quin was there as well as others. She pressed the buzzer and waited for permission to enter.

Jen put her glass down. "Come in," She called. They were on a ship. She didn't get much people over. And right now she hoped it was either Billy or Dana. But any company would do right now really.

Ameri walked into Jen’s quarters and stopped, calling out. “It’s Ameri, I came to visit you. I hope you are up to some company!”

"Yes, Lieutenant Ó Flannagáin, the first officer's wife. Please come in," Jen said as she looked in Ameri's general direction. "And please help yourself at the replicator. As you can see, I don't think I wouldn't be able to find the replicator, let alone order you something. And please, could you get me another glass of water and a sweet peachy cocktail." She motioned towards the bandages over her eyes.

“Yes of course,” Ameri replied. She got Jen a glass of water and one for herself, along with the cocktail. “Here you go,l she set them in front of her and took a seat. “I had heard you were injured in the last mission and I wanted to come by and see if there was anything I could do for you, I am glad I showed up when I did. Remind me before I leave and I’ll get you another glass of water.”

"Thank you, Ameri, that is very kind of you," Jen said as she reached out to the glass Ameri had put in front of her. "I am kind of being lonely here. I am mostly visited by a nurse here to help me with things that I can't do at the moment. Lieutenant Wakefield comes in now and again. And Billy is so busy on the department, I only seen him last night, but he has left me again in the morning. Every company is always appreciated." She smiled. "Even when I am not blind." She scoffed a little. This is only temporary. Doctor Bones said it will only be 1 more day and then he will take my bandages off."

“I am glad to hear that,” Ameri smiled at her news. “I know I speak for everyone when I say we’ve all been concerned. You are an important part of the crew and a valued friend and Pioneer family. I know I haven’t exactly been around all that much but I hear things and now that I am back in science I am looking forward to working with everyone.” Ameri took a drink from her glass. “I can imagine you would be anxious for this to be over, I wish there was something I could do but I can see having a visitor means a lot to you.”

Jen nodded. "Thank you again." She said. "Is there any news on the ship. I heard we arrived at Empok Nor. Any news from Empok Nor?" She asked as she was curious to know what was going on in her absence.

“I am afraid I don’t know much,” Ameri confessed. “I have been spending time with Quinn and adjusting to work again. “I know we have picked up some new crew. I am going to take some self defense classes, I know I will never be as good at it as most of you but I want to be able to defend myself should the need arrive. “ Can i ask you a personal question?”

"As they say in the business, questions are free, answers may not be," Jen smiled. "Go ahead, Ameri."

“Why intelligence?” Ameri asked her. What made you decide on this career?”

Jen laughed after hearing the question. She turned to Ameri. "Why science? Isn't science you use to get to know something, gather facts from doing experiments, formulate a theory and then test that theory. You like to know. You don't like to not know. The same is with intelligence. Only we gather information in a different way. We get rumors and we gather intell and evidence to proof the rumor. We get information to prepare missions. We work on facts like science. And like you, I like to know, and I don't like not to know. And any proven theory and fact from science, is also intell for me."

She bit her lip. "But truth be told, my parents were starfleet officers, when they died, there was so much mystery surrounded, and I wasn't allowed to know. I joined starfleet, because I wanted to know what happened to them. It's also why I started hacking. I left the academy before I graduated. I would have been expelled anyways." She shrugged and sighed. "Apparently I am that good at hacking, that starfleet rather me working them than against them." She smiled.

“You are really good at it,” Ameri explained. “I know a lot of crew think my department is boring I appreciate that you see it as much more. I have always been fascinated I guess the word is about intelligence and what makes a person want to go into it. I hope you don’t think I was putting it down or anyrhing because I do respect what you do.” Ameri was concerned she might have insulted her with the question. “Did you find out what happened to your parents?”

Jennifer fell quiet a moment and then sighed. "I have, but with my new position, I am not allowed to talk about it. Their deaths were classified by starfleet intell. As an intelligence officer I am allowed to know, but I am not allowed to talk about it with anyone outside my department that has a security level lower than department head level."

“What is important is that you know,” Ameri said quietly. “That was what I was hoping for because I wouldn’t want you to live life never knowing. Do you have siblings that helped with your grief?”

Jen sighed and said, "Heh, well I have a twin sister. Her drive to seek answers for our parents death wasn't that high. And our youngest brother. Killian." He smiled at his name. "He was still very young when it happened. Also he was in a special clinic for special needs children. Killian doesn't understand what had happened to our parents. But I still love him none the less."

Ameri sensed that perhaps this wasn’t a subject Jen was comfortable discussing . “Is there anything I can do for you, something you want or need.” She smiled then. “I love to cook, nothing replicates, what would you like to eat, I could drop you off dinner.”

"Oh that would be nice," Jen replied, relieved to not have to discuss it any further. "I am not a good cook, so I eat mostly off the replicator. and Billy is very busy. But I know that he can cook. I should learn how to cook." She thought about that a moment.

Ameri smiled. “I will drop you off dinner then on my way to work.” Ameri paused. “I find cooking a way to relax when something is botheirng me.”

"Oh that's nice," Jen said. "We should get some drinks together, sometimes. Every friday is the social gathering of the Intelligence department if you want to join sometimes. We're much more fun than that sounds." Jen laughed. "After a few drinks, Billy and I dance. I never knew he could make those moves. I'd have yet to see the human do that when they reach 500."

“I might take you up on that,” Ameri said sincerely. “Quinn and I need to get out more.”

"Oh, you should," Jen said, "You meet a lot of the crew that way. " She smiled.

“I need to do that,” Ameri said in agreement. “Here, I will refill your glass and leave some extra water for you before I go.”

"That is nice of you, thank you, Ameri," She turned over to look at Ameri, or tried to. She just looked in the general direction she heard her voice and smiled.
