Mission: Episode 7 - Home Again
Location: Bridge
Timeline: MD006 0800 hrs

Ingrid was feeling something close to eagerness about her first day as Chief Helmsman of the USS Pioneer. She allowed herself a gentle, if not cautious, smile and stepped out of the turbolift onto the bridge. Immediately, she spotted the back of the Captain's head, so she advanced authoritatively toward his lowered level, her hips swinging as she went. She paused in front of the command chair, her eyes having already darted to the helm station in front of him.

"Good morning, sir." she said evenly. "I hope you're hangover free."

"Indeed I am. Welcome the bridge officially." Tyler said with a smile as the woman entered. There was definitely something about this Ingrid. Something that he could not put his finger on. Everything she did, was almost sexualised. But then again it could also all be in his head. "Corporal you stand relieved." Tyler addressed the young woman who had been sitting at the helm. Having someone at the helm was a formality as the ship was in dock at the moment. Shayla stood up and smiled at Ingrid. The smile covered a small amount of sadness that she would not be piloting the ship anymore. "Welcome aboard the Pioneer Lieutenant." Shayla said by way of greeting.

"Thanks, marine." Ingrid said as she watched the woman in her departing. She herself had started off her active duty at a marine base, so she was quite used to their kind. Marines fought hard, trained hard, and played hard; her type of people.

"I see a new Assistant Chief has transferred aboard too." she said, lifting a PADD she'd had at her side and thumbing through it with feigned interest. "The Flight Department here will at least be bigger than the one I had on the Fearless, right?"

"Yes Ensign Price I believe will be serving as your assistant. The Flight Department here is quite large, as it consists of yourself, the Assistant and then another Helmsman. Also the Shuttle Bay manager, and two shuttle pilots report to you. Corporal Kunadt, who you just met is a pilot and EVAC Specialist. The Argo Class shuttle named Hawkeye is given to the Marines. However, when on the ship she is at your disposal should you need. I imagine that is quite larger than the staff you had on the Fearless. Heck, you even have you own office on Deck 9 in the Flight Control Center." Tyler explained with a smile. The Pioneer was his favorite subject to talk about.

"It's a bit larger than I had on Fearless." she said with a nod, "But I definitely didn't have an office, that's for sure."

"Nothing comes in or out of those shuttle bays without you knowing about it. The Pioneer comes equipped with a Delta Flyer Class runabout, the Serenity. The Aerowing Class shuttle or Captain's Yacht, named Oakley. Two type 8 shuttles the Roosevelt and the Churchill. The Argo Class Hawkeye and it's land craft. Four type 9 shuttles the Earp, Holiday, Geronimo, and Sitting Bull respectively. Finally, one Brunel Class workpod that is named Edison. Even with all of this there is still room in the shuttle bays to land any craft needed." He wanted to make sure that she was aware of all of the tools at her disposal. "Even with all those perks the Pioneer does have her drawbacks. She is not as maneuverable as the Fearless was."

"In the right hands, sir, those drawbacks can be reduced to zero." she said confidently, crossing her arms. "I'll run my entire department through holodeck drills that will counteract some of the natural limitations of the Intrepid class design. I know she's no Defiant, but she's no Galaxy either. A child could pilot one of those."

Tyler smiled broadly he liked the way Ingrid spoke about his beloved Intrepid Class. "Sounds good! For a larger ship we have managed to get her moving in battle. Ideally I would like to increase the response time from the helm to the engines. It seems to me that there is too much lag. When we leave the station, give it a test and let me know what you think. Also Lieutenant I have to ask, have you ever landed a starship?"

"No, but the XO already told me what fun I missed!" she said, grinning an amused smile. "I formally request we go back so I can give it a go."

"In due time Ms Hollister in due time. Right now we have shore leave. So take the time to become familiar with what you need. Also my suggestion is to take some time to yourself..." Tyler's voice trailed off as he walked toward the helm. As he faced the viewscreen he whispered in a tone that only she could hear. "Lieutenant I have faith that you are ready for this. However, I know the ordeal you have been through. If you feel you are not up to the tasks ahead simply speak up."

"I've been through tougher scrapes before, sir." she said, lying, though convincingly. "I'm ready for anything you can throw at me. When I can't handle it, I'll let you know."

"Fair enough, and it is not what I can throw at you that I am afraid of. It is what Cardassia will throw at you..." His voice trailed off as he smiled, squeezed her shoulder and sat back down in the command chair.

"Cardassia cannot do more to me than it already has." she remarked quietly, then she pulled out her seat and sat behind the Pioneer's helm for the first time.

Tyler tilted his head in thought as he watched her bring the helm online. He did not believe much in destiny however, he knew that Ingrid Hollister needed to be on the Pioneer. For exactly what reason Tyler did not know, and yet he knew that in time all would be revealed.
