Mission: Episode 3 - Weary Travellers
Location: Holodeck
Timeline: MD001 1130 hrs

Richard gazed at the oblong torpedo that had been recovered from the station. It was sleek and smooth and extremely deadly. The azzian's normal smile was not to be found as a sullenness had settled in.

"So let's get this thing disarmed and figure out how to beat this thing."

The door slid open and Vaebn stepped in rubbing his temples with one hand, and his ever-present mug of coffee in his other. He approached the doctor, took a long pull from the mug, "So what have you brought aboard today Doctor?"

"Something better never created." Richard quipped quickly and turned towards the man with a smile, "since it is let's take it apart and figure out how to neutralize it affects if they do use one."

"Okay then. Perhaps a suggestion though? Since you have brought our new toy to the holodeck, I am assuming you want to synthesize the tools we'll need to get the job done." Vaebn slowly walked around the torpedo. "I propose we utilize similar scans as we use in astrometrics and your body scans to create a translucent framework schematic of what we are looking at, next to the device, instead of tinkering with it and blowing up half the ship." He took another long drink from the mug. "Unless, of course, you already thought of that, and I'm just late to the party.

Richard chuckled and he shook his head, "oh you're not late." He motioned away to the left of the holodeck, "computer display the real torpedo."

The computer-generated illusion where he pointed ended and the real device was revealed behind a force field.

"I thought working on the fake one first might be really smart before we tried the real one." The physician chuckled, "I'd rather blow up a fake one than the real one."

"Well then," Vaebn said, "It seems as though you have more than prepared for this. Computer: Display wire-frame schematic of the torpedo half a meter above the holographic torpedo."

A slight shimmer wavered above the doctor's test model, and an orange colored wire-frame model of the torpedo appeared. "Maybe this can help us find our way through this thing. Do we know how many of these were on that station?"

"Richard shook his head, "I don't know but this can't be the only one."

Myles came in at the tail end of the Doctors statement. And he decided to chime in. "Apologies for my tardiness first off," he said. "But It's my assumption that there have to be more floating around."

"I completely agree with that assumption. It wouldn't make sense to design and build a weapon of this magnitude, and only build one. Once deployed, you have lost your tactical edge." Vaebn looked back to the wire-frame model above the hologram and began pulling the diagram apart. "There is something familiar about part of this, but I cannot quite put my finger on it. It is rather frustrating."

"Well gentlemen," Richard stated looking over at the simulated device, "we got our work cut out for us and the sooner we resolve it the better."

Vaebn studied the model and the wire-frame. "It looks like a standard long range Dominion torpedo, but the guidance systems are amalgamated between Starfleet and Cardassian design, except this is programmed for long range tracking. I'm no engineer, but I'd swear that these are similar to the guidance systems we use with the modified torpedoes on the re-purposed Cardassian stations, like DS9 and Empok Nor." He raised his hands from the controls and picked up his mug and took a long drink. "Am I close on that analysis Lt Myles?"

Larim took a look. He nodded and rubbed his chin. "I agree. A lot similar. With a little extra mods put in. I guess they like to tinker." he said. "Because I see a little bit of improvement on the "standard" Larim said, not to repeat the earlier comment. "Like they put their own spin on it."

"Well I want to put our spin on it," Richard's voice was a bit more anger in it than usual, "we need to neuter this thing for good."

"Agreed." Vaebn walked around the model looking at the wire-frame and the holographic imagery in front of him. "Computer - remove the panel over the primary warhead." The image shimmered and exposed the warhead core. Vaebn leaned in a little to look. "I know this design.... Computer - run a cross spectral radiation scan, and cross the results with known exotic radiation signatures." he said, sounding on the border of frantic and composed. "That should get us an idea of whats behind that warhead shielding."

A few moments later the computers voice chimed in with an answer that left Vaebn pale. He repeated the answer, softly, with a voice full of shock and fear; "Thalaron."
