Location: Mess Hall
Timeline: MD003 1200 hrs

Kalina was sitting alone at the table, when Enya passed by. At first Kalina did not notice her. She really did not pay attention to the Captain's daughter. She was still new to the ship, and was trying to get use to the officers. She had a lot to learn still.

Enya came to a stop and walked backwards. She hated to see anyone eating alone. “Can I sit here?” She asked with a smile.

Kalina was a little surprised, to see that the little one choose to stop to talk to her. She had expected her to sit with her mother. She smiled at Enya, with her beautiful black eyes and said. "By all means."

Enya sat down and took a drink, then looked at her. “I bet your wondering why I’m sitting here.” She smiled. “I like sitting with different people, I get bored.”

"I see, and how is that going for you?" Kalina asked, with a warm smile on her face. She was facinated, that this little one was so brave. To approach strangers, and join them for a meal.

“Sometimes it’s good,” Enya confessed. “Not everyone likes kids, I just leave them alone.” She smiled at Kalina. “I kind of thought it was safe to sit here because I felt like you do.”

"How is that possible? Kids are the future, tomorrow's leaders. Our legacy. Wow some people can be a little self centered." Kalina said, in a sweet and sincere voice.

“It’s just like anywhere else I suppose,” Enya shrugged her shoulders. “Some people like kids and some just think I’m the first officers pesky kid.” She smiled then. “It’s okay I kind of think they won’t be here long with their attitudes.”

"Pesky first officer kid, you poor dear. No one should ever call a sweet thing like you a pesky kid. What do those soured mouth grumpies know anyways." Kalina said, with a big smile on her face. She was trying to cheer up Enya. That was very mean for an adult to say to a child.

Enya smiled at her. “Thanks!” She took a bite of the food on her plate. Do you like green vegetables?”

"Of course not, but I eat them anyways. To keep the doc off my back." Kalina said, with a big grin on her face. She was not a big fan of them, but she consumed them on a regular basis.

“My parents make me eat them,” Enya said with a sigh, stabbing a piece of broccoli. “And I can’t even sneak some ice cream because I would feel guilty about breaking their rules. It sucks.”

"It is their responsibility to make sure, you get a well balanced and nutrient supplements. You are a growing lady, and if you take after your mother. You will be turning all the boys heads." Kalina said, she was not sure Enya was even interested in the boys.

“If I am ever on a ship where there are any,” Enya sighed. “Though from what I think, they are kind of a pain.”

"yes, they can be a pain." Kalina said with a big grin on her face. He thought about it for a second and then finally responded, trying to motivate little Enya. "The older we get the more we learn that we like them being a pain, because if they are just like us then what would be the point?" Kalina asked knowing darn well that Enya probably wouldn't be able to answer that question.

“My dad says I can’t date until I’m a hundred,” Enya said with a giggle. “I think I don’t have to worry for a long time.”

"Sounds like a typical father, don't worry that will change what time but not until you're a little older." Kalina suggest to her in a soft and calm voice.

Kalina was not sure if that was reassuring to the young one, cuz she was still a little and probably still didn't like boys she didn't want to scan her to find out because I would be an invasion of her privacy.

“I think he’s joking,” Enya said with a laugh. “But I been thinkin I want to figure out what I wanna do before I think about boys.”

"A nobel goal, and I know how you felt. I was the same way." Kalina said, with a big grin on her face. She too, wanted to decide her career before she thought about men.

“My mom says if I want to be an engineer or something I need to study hard.” Enya explained. “No time for other stuff.”

"What do you want to do?" Kalina asked, with a big warm smile on her face.

“Right now an engineer,” Enya grinned. “But I wanted to be a scientist like my mom before so I know I might not want that later.”

"You have plenty of time to consider your options closely." Kalina said, with a big grin on her face. She remembered at her age, she was constantly changing her mind too.

“Good thing,” Enya laughed. “I’m always changing my mind.”

"You dont have to decide, as a matter of fact. I would challenge you, to explore all the fields, and see which one you like the most." Kalina suggested to little Enya.

“I got a lot of time that’s for sure,” Enya said with a sigh. “I know I’m gonna be a captain one day.”

"Captain Enya, I like that sound of that." Kalina said, with a big grin on her face. She could totally see the first officer's daughter being a captain someday.

“Me too,” Enya grinned. “I thought first it would be just bossing people but Uncle Tyler let me see and it’s lots of stuff.”

"The Captain's job is tough, if we are being honest. It scares me, to know that one day I might be a captain of my own ship." Kalina said, with a big grin on her face. She was not afraid to share her feelings.

“Lots of people you gotta think about,” Enya nodded. “All looking at you.”

"They are looking at you, idolizing you. And thinking you are a pedastool, a goal to achieve. Like I am any different." Kalina said, as she went on. "I am trying to make myself more like your father and the Captain." Kalina suggested.

“My dads a really good officer,” Enya nodded. “Sometimes he is gone for a long long time and I miss him but Mom says it’s cause he is important.”

"The price we pay for being starfleet officers, someday if you join you too will make your parents worry when you go on those long missions." Kalina said, trying to let her to know. That someday, her folks would understand how she felt.

“They will drive each other crazy,” Enya grinned. “Just like us when Dad is gone.” She remembered a time or two scared her Dad wouldn’t come back.

"Perhaps, but lets hope not. They are both good people." Kalina suggested to Enya, thinking she did not want Ameri and Quinn to change at all.

“I think them having been out here will help,” Enya replied. “And they have each other. I’m glad to have Mom here.”

"Just the mom?" Kalina asked, wondering what she thought of her father?

“Oh,” Enya sighed. “I meant when Dads gone on one of his missions. I would hate being alone.”

"I think we all hate being alone. Maybe its why my Mom is marrying me off." Kalina said to Enya. She had not contemplated that possibility, up to this point.

“Do you like him?” Enya asked her. She hoped so cause she didn’t want Kalina to be sad.

"He is nice, and we seem compatible. I would say, yeah I like him." Kalina said, with a big grin on her face.

“That’s good!” Enya smiled at her. “It would be awful if you didn’t.”

"Agreed, but dont worry. He is a good man." Kalina suggested to Enya. To re assure the little one.

“He is nice to me,” Enya spoke up. “He doesn’t ignore me or treat me different.”

"Someday you will find a boy like him. But you still have a lot of time ahead of you. Don't be in a rush." Kalina said, with a big grin.

“I am not at all,” Enya declared. “I like being spoiled by my mom and dad.”

"Spoiled huh, what is that like?" Kalina asked, with a humbling smile on her face.

“It’s great!” Enya giggled. “I get ice cream sometimes when I’m not supposed to and when we’re at a base they buy me stuff!” She looked at Kalina. “And we play games together.”

"Sounds great, I want to be spoiled." Kalina said, thinking a bowl of icecream sounded really good right now.

“Want some ice cream?” Enya asked with a grin. “I like peach or butter pecan.”

"Me too, but we should ask your folks. Dont want them upset at us." Kalina said, thinking about getting a bowl of ice cream.

Enya nodded. “My Dads on the bridge but I’ll send him a message and see what he says.”

"Your mom is right over there. Might be faster to ask her." Kalina suggested to Enya, as she pointed out her mother to her.

“She will say no,” Enya said as she messaged her father. “I have more of a chance with my Dad.”

"I typically find that if one parent says no, then both will say no." Kalina pointed out to her.

“Mom and Dad do a lot,” Enya nodded. “But...she looked at her message from her father. “He said no.” She sighed. “I can still spoil you with ice cream though.”

"Rain check on that." Kalina said, with a big grin. She was not going to eat ice cream in front of her. That would be rude.

Enya sighed again. “I can’t wait to have kids. I’m gonna let them eat ice cream with their friends.” She frowned. “And I even ate the broccoli!”

"I bet you parents said that too." Kalina pointed out to her.

“But I mean it!” Enya said with determination. “I hate it when they say no for no reason!”

"They have their reasons, have you asked them why?" Kalina asked, with a curious look on her face.

“Because their the parents!” Enya sighed. “I just wanted ice cream but I can’t always get what I want, it’s what my Mom says.”

"Now that is not fair, you should ask them." Kalina suggested to Enya. She hoped that Enya would, but feared that she would not.

“I don’t know,” Enya shrugged. “I might.”

"Think about it." Kalina said, as the scene starts to fade away.

“I will,” Enya said. She was leaning towards not asking but might change her mind.
